I have just been told that if I remove the skysports package I will no longer get the F1 channel and if I want to watch f1 in HD I have to add another £2.50 odd to get HD too!!

Anyone else had this?

No, it's included with the HD bundle, not the Sports bundle

It's been like this for ages. The first season was "free" to those that had to £10 odd Sky HD package, regardless of other channel you subscribed to. So many of their customer got it for no additional cost.

I cancelled my HD channel package as I rarely watch TV so decided to save some costs. I lost the F1 channel which I expected and didn't mind as the season was over.

Come march I call up again to have my HD package added again please for £10 in order to get the F1 channel back. They inform me that Sky sports f1 is now part of the sky sports package only which is a lot more money.

I didn't mind paying a tender for the channel but I'm not paying 40 quid odd to get it. I won't watch the other sports channels.

So, look out for live streaming for free on plenty of websites, plug your pc into your tv and watch for fee. The bbc have lots live so you're only having to watch a few over the internet.

Yes I know you might not get the commentary you want but it's better than paying 40 quid in my view for 2 hours of coverage every other weekend on sky sports.

You get the HD version in the HD bundle but you have to subscribe to sky sports to be able to get the F1 channel in the first place in HD. Happy to be corrected as I'll sign up if that's the case!!

I think they have now broken up the HD Pack! All customers now get HD on entertainment extra if you want sky sports that £22 then if you want it in hd then add the hd pack at 5.50. Thus the hd pack comes with f1 but you now can't have the hd pack unless you have sky sports!

I think there was a thread about this last year and the conclusion was that if you are currently getting F1 without Sky Sports, don't change your package at all.

I'm confused.

Oh well, I have the HD package but no Sky Sports, and I have the F1 HD channel. Or at least I did have, I must admit, I haven't watched it for a while but I assume it's still there!!

I'm the same. But that "deal" is no longer available, so if you cancelled your HD for a few months and then went back to it, you wouldn't get F1...

Well I subscribe to SkySports for the Cricket, which is albeit over now. I have never come off HD so heres hoping. I have a feeling though they have changed it all now.

My SkySports subscription ends on the 1st of March, so in theory I would keep the F1 Channel as I have been paying the £10.50 odd for Sky HD since launch, If i lose the channel then I will i guess have to pay for SkySports all year round!

At least i have about 2 weeks to sort it out before Melbourne.

There was a thread about this a while back, and someone from Sky popped up.

It used to come with the HD pack. If you haven't changed / upgraded then you'll still get it (I was able to view last night).

New subscribers / people who changed what they have, now need Sports to get the F1 channel.

That said... it may all have changed again! banghead

Could anyone answer this please?
I've currently got Sky HD, movies and F1 but not sports.
If I drop movies off, will I retain F1?

Thanks,

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't assume you would still have it. There was a very helpful PHer who was a Sky person in the other thread so it might be worth trying to search it out.

You have to be very careful there - As I understand it the F1 as part of the HD pack is a 'legacy pack' if you call up and ask them to remove movies the person on the phone can't just untick movies and give you a new price, they have to select a new package, and none of the options open to them will have F1 unless its part of the horribly expensive Sports one.

It's a st offering IMHO, they're asking F1 fans to take it up the arse in return for a lot of expensive Football they may not want.

I have to say, given their form with football fans, I suspected they'd drop the 'free' F1 for us original subscribers this season,- they sill might.

You should retain F1 but, as P-Jay says, be careful.

There have been cases where people who had the "legacy" Entertainment / Entertainment Extra and HD pack and either Sky Sports/Sky Movies (or both), and when they get Movies and/or Sports removed they are moved on to the Entertainment Extra + pack. If this happens you will lose F1 and will only be able to get it back with Sky Sports.

You may find yourself moved on to Entertainment Extra + because the old Entertainment/Entertainment Extra and Legacy HD packs are technically no longer available. In which case, bye bye F1.

In that case it would more likely be bye-bye Sky! F1 and Top Gear are the only things I religiously watch, everything else is just seeing what is on.

Thank you all for the advice, my cheap deal is ending in March so I shall ring the help centre and see what they can do for me.

If they do that, I'll leave Sky. TV, multiroom, phone and broadband. I'm only with Sky for everything else as it's easy having it all in one place. I could quite happily live with freeview or freesat if they want to charge me extra for Sky Sports. I wouldn't want to watch any other sports channels, definitely not football.

Ps. I've just checked, I still have F1, for now!

I renegotiated my package deal a few months ago and I have F1 HD but no other sports channels except Eurosport, Motors TV and the extreme channel, and no movie channels, I think there was a small extra charge to just keep the F1 in with all the 'normal' HD channels, £5 rings a bell, but I was talking to 'cancellations' as the 1st line 'help desk' usually can't seem to access the deals. wink

It can be done, just be carefull. We had full package, including HD which we have had for ages , so it is HD legacy. I called in December to drop sports and movies, but made it explicitly clear that I did not want them to touch anything else and to leave us on the HD legacy package, and made it clear this was so I kept F1. (I only knew to say this from the thread previously referred to above, as if you don't, they put you on the new packages including HD, but which now does not include F1.

Seems to have worked, I. Still have F1 channel, and everything else apart from sports and movies.

One shall chime in.

Anyone who has the HD subscription at a cost of £10.25 per month will continue to get the F1 channel, in HD as long as they don't remove the HD pack. That means any temptation by Sky Employees to get you to 'save money' by moving onto 'Entertainment Extra +' to save £5.25 a month should be ignored and rejected.

The £10.25 HD pack is a legacy product that is no longer available. Once it's gone, it's GONE.

If you don't have the HD subscription (i.e. you either have never had it, got rid of it or are a new customer) then you the only way can get the F1 channel is to subscribe to Sky Sports. There's usually some form, of half price deal for a set period floating around. Sky Sports in SD will get you the F1 channel in SD. In order to get it in HD you need to add the 'Premium HD' pack which is usually £5.25 a month.
