I thought it was great, really enjoyed it. Best movie I've seen in a long time.

Probably paralleled/referenced A New Hope a bit more than it needed to, but by and large I reckon they nailed it.

A few quick thoughts, waaaaay too many positives to list, can't wait to see it again tomorrow.

+ Millenium Falcon reveal. Took everybody by surprise, nicely done
+ The humanisation of the Stormtroopers, really dug this, loved the scene where Kylo is flipping out so the Stormtroopers turn back and go the other way.
+ Kylo Ren. Badass.
+ Han + Chewie + Rey. Loved all of their scenes together, Daisy was terrific.

- Snoke. Generally the effects were brilliantly realised and clearly done practically as much as possible, but Snoke fell massively flat for me. Felt quite jarring compared to everything else.

Enjoyable. Considering the enormous hype prior to showing, it had to be pretty good IMO. Story line isn't anything complicated but then it sticks to the tried and tested format of its forerunners. Visually great, as expected.

Rey will be a good character going forward. It will be interesting to see how the future episodes develop.

Realistically it was almost an exact copy of EP4 but I dont care, it was fantastic.

Felt like one of the original films and nothing like the prequels which is obviously a good thing. Seeing it again Sunday with the missus and cant wait.

Could anybody explain why R2D2 chose to wake up from low-power mode all of a sudden? I caught why he powered himself down in the first place, but missed why he sprung back to life to suddenly present the rest of the map that he had all along.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it did fly a bit too close to A New Hope at times - for this reason, I preferred the first half of the movie. Didn't think it needed the Starkiller base; how many moon/planet sized super weapons do they need?

Was it when the Starkiller was destroyed? They had a copy of the incomplete map apparently so maybe he woke up because his was the only copy left or something?

Yeah I didnt catch it either hehe

I presumed although he was in lower power mode, he was aware and could hear what was going on around him. Therefore he was protecting his master, it simply wasn't safe for anyone to track him down whilst the Starkiller base was active etc (and there was no point anyway until the rest of the map arrived). He sprung back into life when there was a reason to, basically.

Or, maybe Luke felt the light side of the force in Rey, therefore woke R2-D2 up (via the force) so he could be found by Rey to train her up, presumably to make amends for losing Han's son to the darkside (was he called Ben? I didn't quite catch what Han shouted on the bridge)

Yep he was Ben. Perhaps named after Obi Wan's alias?

Yup. Kylo Ren's real name is Ben (in honour of Obi-Wan I presume).

Liking your first explanation for R2. I'm due to see it again on Friday evening and with the awe out of the way, I'm hoping to try and catch some of the finer details on a second viewing.

Saw it, loved it smile Loved that it sort of mirrored EP4 but didn't try to be ep4. I thought BB8 would be token, but he was in it a lot, and cute and cleverly done.

It was very fast paced and I cant wait to see the extended dvd release cut.

I loved the seeming fleshing out of han and chewies relationship, they seemed to have the chemistry they didn't quite get right in ep4-6.

Im intrigued by who rey and fin are, cant wait for the next film in the series. Is rey a solo, is fin force sensitive, was that the awakening that kylo spoke of? fin seemed to handle a sabre well enough.

The cinema was pretty silent throughout the whole film.

Id tried to avoid as much as I could about the film, I had a jist of the names of the characters but didn't know who they where.

I think poe is gonna be an interesting character to.

Think the looks between Leia and Rey were a bit over the top and has pretty much confirmed the story for the next one. Having said that loved the film and the ending was really well done.

I thought the first third was a bit too new hope. It was also a bit too greatest hits of star wars.
The MF felt a bit shoehorned in and I felt in general the old cast were not really required (except Luke) although it's nice to see them back. I hope this was the join up movie and now the plot can move forward on to pastures new.
Watching last night I thought Ren was a bit ineffectual like a petulant teen but I guess that is actually what they wanted. A young guy with anger issues trying to live up to his parents and grandfather. Loved his tantrum and the Stormtroopers backing off.
Is snork going to be about 3ft tall?

On another note, the Empire/First order really need to work on their H&S. And aiming practice, although the shooting seems to improve when not wearing the helmet.

I didn't really like Poe.

Is there a general consensus on who Rey's parents are? They were mentioned a fair bit and presumably they are fairly major players in the Jedi world given her natural abilities. The obvious answer seems too obvious, and she mentions Luke by first name (i.e. not 'my father') so unless she doesn't know or they've intentionally made that quite vague, he's not her father.

Thought it was amazing. Really impressed with JJ's direction of Star Wars.

All the characters were brilliantly done and I was surprised that Rey was not Han/Leia's daughter but Kylo pretty much cemented himself as one the iconic villains of SW. He is the epitome of evil killing his father.

It felt more EP4-6 as it was more 'real life' like than the video game CGI look that EP1-3 had. The saber fights were done well without going over the top with the prequels but I guess in the Jedi knight's heyday, they were at the top of their game with their acrobatics and advanced swordplay whereas Kylo was not fully trained in the Dark Side and Rey just begun to discover that she could use the Force.

BB8 was one of the standouts and just had enough humour throughout in typical goofy Star Wars style.

Snoke was the weak point of the film but I guess we'll see him and Luke properly as they both train their pupils in EP8.

Might just be my reading but I thought it was being implied that she is Han and Leia's daughter.

The bit where ben talks to Vaders chard helmet and called it his grand father was very weird, obviously made sense as the film moved on.

Saw it, loved it!

I do however think that Poe will turn out to be a Jedi. I am thinking brother of Ray.

Killing Han seemed forced but required I guess.

Regarding R2, the flashback scene shows Luke with his hand on R2, I would imagine that this will get context in the next Episode but I will hedge on that being the reason R2 was in low power.
