I enjoy watching car programmes but am getting very sick and tired of a lack of shows in the UK. Discovery seem to have wheeler dealers stuck on repeat on their turbo channel, and apart from tonight keep showing repeats of fast and loud and overhauling. So I've been looking into the motor trend on demand but I want to know if it's worth it? I don't want to subscribe just to see the stuff they put on YouTube earlier then others like they have with roadkill, I want to know if they have some worthwhile shows on there.
So does anyone here subscribe to it or know of something similar?

Thanks
Scott

I've got the Motor Trend channel subscribed on Youtube. Another PHer put me onto Roadkill recently and I'm hooked, I'm really enjoying it.

There seems to be a lot of good car related stuff on the Motor Trend page, obviously it is all very American but makes a change from what we get usually.

Thanks for the info! I thought that may be the case for the on demand! No point in paying for something just to get it a week or two before everyone else. It's such a shame we don't have a decent motoring channel in the UK. Oh well back too patiently waiting for things on YouTube it i's lol!

Thanks
Scott

Roadkill is great. As for the subscription channels (Sky etc) IIRC they're now showing season 2 of bhin' Rides - excellent program with some stunning vehicles

Apologies if there is another thread running on this.

I see Motor Trend are pushing subscriptions again and if I understand correctly new episodes will no longer be on Youtube.

The subscription price seems reasonable but they seem to say you can watch for free with ads.

However the links given and a quick trawl of the Motor Trend site don't readily show how to access FOC.

Are they big enough now to make the sub system work?

They are offering a two week free trial just now you will have to add you details and cancel before the end of the trial if you dont want to continue, dont think you can watch free with ads. I decided to try it out due to the amont of content they provide.

I couldn't find an easy way to find the claimed 'free with ads' content, I assume you have to sign up first.

Anyone know if any of their content is geoblocked?

For sub-20 quid for a year it is almost cheap enough to be paid and forgotten about.

The headline motorsport is available elsewhere but it would be convenient to have it all in one place.

I had a look at the subscription rates and it seemed to be something like $24 for a year and $99 for two years.
If I read it correctly I can’t see many signing up for the 2year deal.

I've been subbed to MTOD for 2 years now; almost everything on there is available to watch in the UK; all their original content (like 12 shows), plus all the Discovery stuff they've now got since Disc. bought them out, plus a whole plethora of motorsport stuff that you just can't find on free-to-air channels here - WEC, Aussie V8, Nascar, Indy, tons of mid-lower field stuff too. For the price you get a lot of content IMO.

RE the 2-year thing being more expensive, that's because they have a deal on for the 1 year sub right now; usually the 2-year is cheaper overall but not whilst they're going through this transition of moving away from youtube and trying to encourage people to sign up.

ETA I said "almost everything" because there were one or two obscure things blocked, but nothing major. Sometimes some of their live streams, like Race of Champions, won't work in the UK because I think sky has the rights to airing that live. But like 95% of their content is good to go at any time in the UK.

Parabolica, thanks for taking the time to reply, it is really helpful. Makes me think I should sign up for a year and give it a try.

What are people watching on?

The android app is incompatible will all my devices, including my smart tv, and the app crashed on my Xbox one.

I really want to subscribe, but I have no way of watching.

I am watching it on the website mostly, but notice amazon have an add on which is £3.99 a month if you have prime. If you have a jailbroken phone then you can download the apk for android to install the app but it is not available in the Play store.

I watch either via the App on my iPhone (which is then mirrored to my big TV via Apple TV) or via the MTOD App on my firestick. There is also a MTOD channel available via the built-in amazon service on smart TVs. Roku and other devices also have apps available (found this out last week when everyone was moaning about them leaving YouTube - plenty of options out there).

I watch via the app on Xbox. Works perfectly and have had it for a couple of years now I think.
