Hello all,
I'm trying to find out the name of a film but I only have very vague details. I remember the final scene being a young man who appeared to have been conscripted in to the US Army. You see him sitting at the back of a bus running his hand through what's left of his hair after it's all been cut off before he decides to make a break for it.
I think he assaults the bus driver forcing him to pull over. He then escapes into some nearby woods with (possibly) other new soldiers cheering him on.
The End.
I seem to recall there were no words during this final scene, just a music soundtrack which may or may not have been Jimi Hendrix.
The film would have been from around the mid 80s give or take, possibly earlier.
Any ideas?

Casualties of War ended with a bus scene. But not as you describe.
Wasn't Forrest Gump was it? He was waiting for a bus...

Any idea what era this was set in? I'm assuming the Vietnam War era due to the conscription, and considering the movie Tigerland had Colin Farrell playing a rebellious soldier (IIRC) then perhaps it was this?
Yes, could well be Vietnam. It certainly had that 'feel' to it, if that makes sense. However, Tigerland is much more recent than the one I'm thinking of which is mid 80s.Gretchen said:

Not Casualties of War - or Forrest Gump! I shall have a look through the links you've provided (thank you) and see if anything rings a bell.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1980s_war...

I shall have a look through and see if anything fits the bill. Thank you for the link.Big thread bump!
A long-time lurker and reader of PH, I thought my prayers were answered when OP posted this way back in 2016, as trying to find this film had been driving me screwy for years, but, alas, no joy - so time to resurrect the request.
Mods - if this now belongs in the specific "What's that film thread", please move.
Not a lot I can add to original post - I'm pretty sure I watched it whilst still living at home, so we are talking pre-1996, and I found it channel-hopping one Sunday night, so only caught the second half of it. Fairly sure it was on BBC2 and originally thought it may have been shown as part of the Alex Cox "Moviedrome" series, but none of the 200-odd films check out.
The ending is pretty much as posted, although I thought he ran across a dust field or cornfield, but he was definitely cheered on by those still on the bus - thought the closing music during this scene had a "Whiter Shade of Pale" vibe about it.
Think the looming Vietnam(?) draft was the basis of the film and how this affected his daily life, although I don't think it is probably classed as a Vietnam film.
Any ideas or help - this has been in my head on and off for far too long now!

I remember stumbling across this film in 1989 one weekday evening and watched it through.
The ending sounds familiar to what’s being asked here.
This looks a very promising end to the torment! The ending sounds familiar to what’s being asked here.
The Purple Haze would tie in with Jamesson’s thoughts about the Hendrix music and I can recall
the main guy having blondish wavy hair and glasses, which is how Peter Nelson looks.
Now to find it!

I think its no longer available due to copyright problems with the musical content.I’m happy to be corrected as I’d like to watch it again.
I remember staying up watching it till 10.30 PM which was late for me that night as I was up very early the next day for work.
I also remember thinking it was worth staying up for.
It’d be interesting to see what I think of it now, going on for 34 years later.

Sounds similar to Fandago? A long-time lurker and reader of PH, I thought my prayers were answered when OP posted this way back in 2016, as trying to find this film had been driving me screwy for years, but, alas, no joy - so time to resurrect the request.

You’re right about it being hard to find, although I have just sourced a copy from the US - even if the quality isn’t great, just being able to see that end scene again will be a total relief
