I do not have kodi but hear about it a lot, people watching sports and new movies for free.

Is this going to be like torrents where only the people distributing the material will get in trouble or are they going to clamp down on users aswell?

It seems crazy that nearly everyone seems to have a box and there appears to be no prosecution, do they just not have the resources?

Legally, at present, it is not illegal to watch a stream.

Recently got KODI, added Exodus onto it and cancelled my netflix and could easily now cancel my Virgin Tivo.

As far as I'm concerned you are only watching a stream.

I don't go as far to have the addons that allow you to watch live TV from all over the world, live football etc because live TV doesnt really bother me. I just use it for series and films.

Total convert.

Really? Even if it is a brand new film?

EU lawmakers decreed that streaming did not constitute 'making a copy', as storage on your device is "short term, or transitory".

The only illegal bit is the source of your stream, TV boxes, and KODI itself, are perfectly legal to own.

I have it, but rarely use it. I tried it when I got a fire TV but the quality isn't good enough. HD is easy enough to find, but HD with surround sound is much more difficult and I've got better things to do than spend an hour trialling different links.

Plus, whatever technicalities you argue regarding the legalities it is morally wrong so even when I was trying it I wasn't really comfortable with it.
I have switched from buying DVDs to buying from Amazon video though - much less messing about than ripping my own DVDs.

I built one on a spare raspberry pi and tried it for a test run. It's ok, but the latest films are all in crap quality on the whole, so I'd tend to watch them when the DVD comes out as you get much better qualities available.

When you've done that, might as well go down the newsgroups and large local storage route and have a copy forever. Do it through a secure tunnel and your probably not going to ever see any trouble. Yes it's illegal but they are going to chase down the big time hosters rather than some bloke with a copy of a few movies.

I've used the kodi mainly for kids to watch stuff as they don't give a hoot about quality or Chinese subtitles.

I find its not as good as it used to be, to many dead links.

I found myself spending a far bit of time trying to find a film in hd quality (many links don't work), also finding a decent quality source for sports is getting impossible.

Thats on both an android box and MacBook.

basically when it works its great, but man it can also be very frustrating.

I think it's great - I use real-debrid alongside Exodus so I have access to a lot of the premium HD links and they work perfectly.

Which add-on are you using for sports? I can get pretty much anything else easily but sports, lots of dead links.

Does anyone use the Royalist skin from Spartan? I seem to be having trouble with it after installing it the other week - not that reliable for Live TV frown

SALTS - stream all the sources.

I rarely struggle to find a HD film or series. After you use it for a while you learn the reliable streams which work first time.

Some of the other apps not as good IME

I've had a Kodi stick for about a year now. I also have Sky and rarely use Kodi anymore. It's just too frustrating. Dead links, constant new builds and updates, stuff stops working and you have to find other apps. You can spend 20 minutes fking around trying to watch a film before you actually get what you want.

I would rather pay a monthly subscription to a legal service than waste my time constantly fiddling about trying to get something to work.

When it does work, it's great. I especially liked being able to watch live TV from the US. That's the best bit for me. Also live Eurosport etc in the winter for the Skiing and suchlike.

It absolutely amazes me how many people have either Kodi, Andrioid Boxes, or a Skybox V4/V5... or all of them. The loss to legal providers such as Sky must be huge.

I can't understand why things like this aren't cracked down on much harder than they currently are. It seems far too easy for someone to buy and use them.

Not that I'm justifying it, but it's not like everyone that has Kodi or similar would pay for a service should it be outlawed. I doubt the loss is as big as it's made out. Sure the news will report £XX millions/billions in lost revenue, but in reality I bet the amount that Sky would gain by the service being clamped down on wouldn't be anywhere near that figure.
