Watching it now on catch-up. Given the set-up, it seems inevitable that in every episode the 'rich' family will try desperately hard to be polite about the poor family's house and understanding about how hard it must be for them, and try and come across as thankful for their own success. These guys did a reasonable (if slightly cringeworthy) job of it.

There was one lovely and quite moving moment though where the 'poor' dad gives his son the football boots and the little boy clutches them to his chest as runs up the stairs.

I thought both families were really nice.

It was touching when he bought his mrs the necklace and said he got it her as she'll never take it off.

I was half expecting a benefits family and a bunch of rich snobs but these were both decent family's who showed respect for the others way of life. The poor family just needed a break (and a new washing machine) thought it was refreshing to have some fairly normal civilized family's on channel 5 for a change ..............Until rich Dad took the dog out for a walk on the estate and got the height of abuse from some minker.grumpy

That's a shame. I won't bother watching now.

I think Young Kayleigh will learn that lots of money on clothes doesn't mean a size 14 will fit you!

Watched the programme. Its very interesting.

I can see why both parents have obviously chosen to be on the programme. The more wealthy family showing the kids what life is like with no money in order for them to appreciate it more. And the poorer family to show what the kids can do if they work hard.

I like this programme. I've watched both episodes and feel all the people have behaved admirably. I didn't like it though, when one of the girls from the 'poor' family , last night, kept saying she wanted to be adopted by the 'rich' family. I thought this was quite hurtful to her mum.

The rich dad in the first episode was a spot on decent guy. Couldn't fault him at all.

The poor dad was a good guy as well, wanting the best for his kids. His kids all doing well at school considering the area they are in speaks volumes, getting up at silly o'clock to ride a bike to work etc, you have to give him credit for that.

Last weeks rich family, the daughter... I have few words! Utterly spoilt. I hope she learned something from it. But her parents didn't help so they cannot be blameless, but I thought they were OK.

The poor mum was good, again wanting the best for her kids and making sure they do the best they can. Kid in uni etc. It shows that not all families in poorer areas have to live up to the stereo type. The daughter wanting to be adopted was a bit poor in the attitude department tbh.

Lasts nights was also good, though the youngest let himself down a bit when he was saying he wanted a ps4. That's not how the programme works. Good on his mum for standing firm. The eldest son came across as a decent guy. Sleeping on a sofa every night isnt much fun.

The rich family came across well. I guess it's part of their faith to be more down to earth as flaunting wealth wouldn't be the in thing and I liked that. I don't mind who makes money, but don't ram it down my throat every minute.

All in all, 3 decent episodes up to now. I don't feel like channel 5 are doing their usual trick of making people look bad either, which is either by design or purely accidentally hehe

I was surprised on this episode the dad saying how he made his fortune, guessing he was lucky and sold out when the government were pushing their green incentive and paying out millions to firms to insulate homes!

Anyone else watch this? It's about two families, one in the wealthiest 10% of the country and one in the poorest. While it had the potential to be a total car crash of a program I thought they both families came across brilliantly.

They usually do in this prog. Not seen tonight’s but last series the poor house families often seemed highly motivated afterwards while the rich family appreciated things far more and at times realised just being together was something their lives didn’t include.

Yes, I watched the first episode in Bristol and Weston which was really good. Second episode with the 'Bentleys' the guy who sold his loft insulation company, I switched off half way through. The girl was driving me mad with her self entitlement.

Has anyone ever noticed how all these poor families wheeled out on Benefits Britain / Street etc always seem to have so much stuff.

Surely it's not because the house is a shoebox or they have a severe lack of storage solutions.

Never really bothered me tbh.

Could be all sorts of reasons why people on benefits have material goods. Perhaps some of them weren't always on benefits? Perhaps they scrimp & save in other areas.
Lots of things like large flat screen TVs can be bought nearly new for not very much money, and if you have little money & can't go out, then a TV, Xbox & decent collection of DVDs would pretty much be a necessity.

If seeing people on benefits having stuff in their houses upsets you, then I can only suggest avoiding such programs in future.

This could have been a repulsive idea for a prog, but to their credit all the episodes I've seen have featured rather nice and decent people, both 'rich and poor'.
