Been watching it on Saturday and it's in the style of a Nordic Noir drama with a Canadian setting. A bit sadistic last week!

Just discovered it. Gritty, very Nordic (but in Ontario), I love the photography throughout and some of the opening drone shots are fantastic. Some Agnes Obel theme music at the start (so Nordic feel again).

Can be a bit demanding to watch due to subject matter, and not for the squeamish. Downloaded all the ones on catchup and set the remaining two to record. Recommended if you like that sort of thing.

Season 2 on now. Started last night, I think. My Virgin Box has recorded it for me.

Only found season 1 last week by accident. Flitting through channels and it was on, but a later episode. Searched for it on iPlayer, and watched the whole lot in one hit. Never done that before.

Season 2 seems like it might get even more grim (subject matter wise) than season 1.

Currently also been enjoying Hidden (very Scandi feel, but the subtitled bits are Welsh, not Nordic) and Keeping Faith when I can fight my way past her "cornball dream sequences" to the meat of the story. Unforgotten also keeping my attention. All conspiring to mean this is the most TV drama I've watched in a very long time.

Cardinal is so well cast too. Apart from the RCMP Sergeant, who seems a bit of a caricature, and reminds me of the 'censorship twins' in Good Morning Vietnam...

My wife thought Cardinal felt similar to The Brokenwood Mysteries (NZ detective drama), although that was far milder in terms of graphic detail and grittiness.

Currently enjoying season 2 and looks like it will be back for a third.
Probably helps that each episode is 45 minutes,so it keeps you with it!

Smiler.

Liking it, lovely scenery and a cutie pint-sized side-kick.

Overlooking the de riguer actory whispering delivery of Cardinal [ speak up FFS ] and the unlikeliness of the
rural Canadia having so many serial killers, devil-worshippers and drug running bikers it's brill.

OK, if I'm picky honest, there are eye-rolling plot problems if you look a bit closer, unlikely coincidences, amazing strokes of happenstance, credulity stretching twists.

how did small woman carry naked 6ft guy upstairs from basement, put him in the car trunk in broad daylight ? how did he survive
massive knife wound, how the flip did he get out of said car trunk and hide in garage ?

I've seen the 1st and 4th seasons and I'll probably watch the others since they're on iplayer now.

Not bad. Just Scandi-noir in English without the knitwear and autism really.
