‘The Staircase’ ... anyone else watching?!
Discussion
I watched it and enjoyed it hugely. I can't understand this idea of deciding someones guilt and then finding or creating evidence to prove it that the american police seem to have in these documentaries. Obviously we only see what the film makers want us to see but that certainly is how it comes across.
I'd love to know what would happen the the dodgy police and investigators if this happened in the UK.
That balding SBI detective who outright lied in court, fabricated evidence and falsified reports should have been charged with 34 counts of perverting the course of justice - but no mention of it, he simply lost his job.

Great show - first 8 episodes brilliant - drags a bit toward the end though
I feel the show made us want to think he was innocent - whether they intended to or not and I think a a viewer you are hoping for some cock up to be discovered at the end. Overall I did sympathise with him but at the end of the day and particularly when Candace turned up when he plead guilty I still feel he has done it - no way are those injuries from a fall.
This thread is quite good and has some close up pictures of the scene

If he did kill her and try to make it look like she fell down the stairs, he didnt make a very good job of it.
Indeed. Looking at the poor woman at the bottom of the stairs in that picture my first thought isn't someones had a tumble.LDN said:
But equally... would he be so haphazard as to kill her and then have that as the mess that law enforcement turn up to? Having said that, news of attempts at a clean up do make you wonder.
Fair point. I guess rage can make you do silly things. She doesn't usually use the home computer for e-mail but has cause to do so that night for business. Finds the gay porn/emails to escorts. Threatens divorce (he's broke). He loses it?Perfect marriage/soul mate, not concerned with his bisexuality however she divorced her previous husband for adultery.
Some of the blood was dry (with attempts to clean in some places). Calls the timeline/time of death he established with the two phone calls into doubt. Time to dispose of a murder weapon?
Re. her intoxication I believe she was fit to drive. Whilst the police were at the scene he as on the computer (lots of information reportedly deleted).
Was there much blood on him? He reported that she was breathing in the first phone call. Were the love of my life be lying at the bottom of the stairs barely breathing I'd be covered in the stuff. Holding her, trying to comfort her until help arrived.

If you are interested read this

It says
- the medics say the woman had been dead far longer than what Peterson said on the calls, they came after 8 minutes but her blood had already dried
- there were bloody footprints which had been wiped
