You could always just ignore the remake, it's not like Hollywood deletes the original from your memory. 
Some remakes are arguably better films. Heat, Scarface, Departed and even the new Jumanji spring to mind.
But I agree that most classics should be left well alone, especially Ferris Buellers Day Off which simply wouldn't work in the modern era anyway!
