Was watching dragons den and one of the pitches was a competition raffle website. You basically buy a ticket and answer a multiple choice question, the question though is really basic, e.g. What is the colour of the car? Or one of them was what manufacturer produces this car?

I've looked up the gambling commission and found this;

How is this legal?

Here is the website, hopefully it doesn't break any rules

They would argue that choosing the number is the skill and the question is simply verification that you are human.

It does seem rather easy to comply with gambling rules.

It's come up numerous times with people putting houses and cars up for grabs.

This isn’t related to dragons den but I’ve seen an increase in these raffle things.

I see adverts pop up on Facebook or Instagram of a guy with a Cayman and he’s selling tickets for 25 pounds and picks the name out of the hat to reveal the new owner.

BOTB do it as well, it’s very smart, and it is gambling but I’m not stupid enough to pay 25 quid for a 1 in whatever chance to own a Golf GTI it Cayman while the owners laughing at me

I've had discussion with the gambling commission on what is permitted, and it boils down to demonstrating a level of knowledge/skill, effectively relative to the average person.

Given how stupid the average TV viewer is, I think they're fine.

"the test in the act is not met when the answer can be found easily on the internet"

Well that's pretty much anything and everything.

Happened here too.

The house was up for sale for an age and couldn't sell.

The raffle was then win a mansion for Christmas. It was delayed and the excuse made she didn't stipulate which Christmas.

I love the way they all pretend it's for a good cause. Although they are giving money to charity they are all trying to raise far more than their car or house is worth for personal benefit.

Their accounts on Companies House don't look very good.

BOTB is not gambling. If it were they would have to be regulated by the Gambling Commission. It's a game of skill not chance. coffee

Quite surprised the GC haven't had a crack down on these. There is so many starting up, all with very dubious methods of meeting the criteria for them to not be licensed. Given the current climate of frowning upon gambling too, although its still VAT free! With them all offering free entry methods to comply with the regs, I wonder if any of them actually accept free entries, or just misplace them.
