...and weather presenters in general.
Why do they need to appear in front of the camera at all?
A nice detailed map with decent graphics or animation and a voice over from a plausible meteorologist would do the job splendidly.
So, why do we need a seemingly endless succession of photogenic presenters, taking up half the screen whilst distracting waving their arms about like a magicians glamorous assistant, during the big reveal?
I'd like to be able to concentrate on the weather forecast, in order to better plan my schedule for the days ahead, but all too often I instead find myself contemplating the removal of Carol Kirkwoods impressive foundation garments and end up with no idea of what the weather is likely to be.
Do others find weather presenters an awful distraction, or is it just me?

Why bother having the forecast televised at all. A quick visit to xcweather or similar tells you all you need to know in seconds. Why do they need to appear in front of the camera at all?

At the risk of getting back on topic, I'll share my frustrations with the regular radio forecast.
I simply cannot process it in any useful way.
I don't know if it's the narrative form it takes or the soft, flowing tones with which it's delivered, but the overall effect varies from somnolent to hypnotic, often leaving me no wiser at the end than I was at the beginning.
Several years ago, R4 broadcast a few times in the style of the Shipping Forecast, to a smattering of very positive responses. I think I'd appreciate that too.

Because typically you'll get a computerised version of what is happening in one location. If the forecast is frequent scattered heavy showers, that's difficult to identify from a graphic, and someone will end up complaining they were told it was going to rain.
Also warnings are much more credible and relatable from a human.
