Anyone watching this? Watched the first episode last night and thought it was really good. Martin Clunes was very believable as the struggling detective.
A bit different to the fictional stuff where the copper is always a divorced alcoholic and fighting all his superiors but then miraculously solves the case nobody else can crack. I thought there was a good go at covering the boring stuff like CCTV footage as I guess that is how most real crimes are solved. Looking forward to the next 2 episodes.

Thought it was pretty good.

Spoiler alert...

By coincidence or design, immediately following this on sky witness, there was the story of Millie Dowler which is essentially the same thing.
There were notable differences in the time lines.
Unless the following episodes fill in the differences.

Could be the same as the one on Sky.

Enjoyed the 2 episodes, which is kind of sad considering it is a true story.
I can understand him wanting to be involved in the case rather than go to Spain.
Surely his other half should have understood considering it seemed like they were after a serial killer?
2004. He wasn't very in belief of her police analysis job. I bet the analyst jobs nowadays are pretty integral to murder cases.

Seemed to me he was obsessed and put his job before his family, from what we've seen I wouldn't be surprised if she left him

I don't normally watch drama but this is really good. The detective Clive Sutton has a book out on the 10th January which should be worth a read -

If this had been a work of fiction I'd possibly be cheering it for being so realistic/powerful - instead, bittersweet at best.

Having been involved in many similar investigations I found this to be one of the more realistic dramatisations I've seen. Martin Clunes was utterly believable as the SIO. It was good to see a little bit of the meticulous and immensely time-consuming and staffing-intensive enquiries that I don't think most people can imagine that goes on in such enquiries - CCTV, intelligence and analytical enquiries, house to house, searches etc. etc. etc. The awaiting of the charging decision 'fax' reminded me of the time a Detective Supt euphorically ran into an Incident Room waving a copy of the charge sheet in a particularly harrowing murder of a 7 year old little girl.

Proper TV , great to see an insight into proper police work . As usual it's the grind of sifting through huge mountains of information to find the scraps that lead to the truth . I also enjoyed the friction between different police forces . Martin Clunes seems to improve with age .
Do others have a deflated feeling when a good series finishes as I find little in the way of new programming that I enjoy .

Yes watched it,

As mentioned the friction between forces was not great to see, does this really happen ?

Also googled Bellfield, he has now converted to Islam and has even admitted to other murders just to torture the families of the victims.

I know it is a controversial subject but I really do think the death penalty should be used on this piece of filth, more so after reading up on what he did to Milly Dowler.
