Just finished binge watching Sex Education on Netflix. Quite funny and enjoyed it once I got into it. However what the hell is going on with the cars?
Firstly Otis's mother driving an ancient Merc estate 280TE or similar, OK so old money type car but really? Then Otis's best mates dad drives a poverty spec Austin Maestro, then one of the teachers at school has a Van den Plas Allegro thingy. Some of the kids turn up at a party in a Metro, the dodgy thugs drive a red Lancia Beta Spyder, I am amazed there are any of these left that are still roadworthy. The gay guy drives an ancient Corvette.
Really? This is set in 2018 for Christ sake not the early 1990's. Do Netflix have a fleet of ste cars lying around for their own series. It boils my piss when they cannot get the simple details right.
Rant over and breath and back to normal. smile

The whole show has an 80s aesthetic, not just the cars.

Have passed it by when browsing but might give it a watch now I know there are a few interesting motors in there.

Temporary thread hijack..my apologies.

Speaking of sex stuff has anyone seen that documentary Porndemic of that dip st porn star Marc something or another who knowingly spread HIV to a ton of women in the 90s.
How is he not in jail?

The 80s cars and the US style school with lockers and flags was all deliberate even though it was in a UK setting. They didn't get anything wrong, they meant it to be like that.

Fair play it was clearly meant to be like that. But why? And why the late 80's and not say the 50's?
I am obviously far too much of a Luddite to understand such things.

Still a bit grumpy.

It's definitely worthwhile viewing for the lovely bangers alone!

The just wanted that feel to it -

“The whole aesthetic of the show is completely inspired by John Hughes and that '80s high school aesthetic that we all know and love, and it's quite universal," Emma explained.

A few of John Hughes' fan favourites include Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club.

"There are a whole range of films that we loved growing up, and that's why the production team chose that because it works and it appeals to people," she added.”

I guess it’s the same reason 80s movies went back to the 50s or 60s, because it’s retro cool!

i havent seen it, but read about it and it sounds a bit weird - a welch school, in the modern day, but with americana (baseball jackets, school lockers etc). Weird.

I blame that show; I've just bought an 800 like the headmaster's car.

I thought it was set in the 80s when the Cavalier pulled up in the first episode but then realised they had smartphones. Thought nothing of it until the next few 80s cars so Googled it, which funnily enough brought me here!
