Written by Russell T Davies whose stuff I have liked over the years
There have been several trailers for it and I saw something the other night. Follows a family over 20 years into the future

Watched the first episode, thought it was brilliant and can't wait for the second.

Watched the first episode, I'm not sure but the wife loved it.

It’s okay and it’s very very Russell T Davies indeed

Surprised this thread is so quiet!

Lots has happened since the first episode, I am quite enjoying it. I would liken it to a BBC budget version of Black Mirror.

Is it getting viewers?

The original trailer didn't really do it any favours I thought - I had no idea what it was going to be about, except it looked very RT Davies (and not in a good way).

Since then it doesn't really seem the BBC have plugged it much, suggesting they've lost interest or faith in it.

What's it actually about?

I forgot about this, well it appears that the wife has been watching it when she's been home and I haven't realised so I guess the first episode didn't particularly gel with me.

I've been watching it and honestly can't make my mind up about it.

Same here, it's OK but in some ways it just seems to be hammering home various reasonably current political topics - bank crash / immigration / unlikely leader gets elected, that kind of stuff. I've stuck with it this far so I'll see it through, but I can't say it's wonderful.

The problem is it's depressingly close to reality

I suspect the Emma Thompson effect. Certainly a instant turn off for me.

Family story running slightly into the future (2028 last night), things happen to them, exaggerated versions of current things played out. Bank crashes, one of them loses a million quid then has to do five jobs, has an affair (which he somehow has time for despite the five jobs) and splits up with wife. Kid gets digital implants for some unclear purpose. Dodgy estates get cordoned off to keep dodgy types inside, homeless get "disappeared". Power cuts, dirty bombs, flooding, all with added "Daily Mail" responses. Lots of boxes ticked.

Quite a bit packed in for six episodes, I guess it's all intended to sound a bit familiar and therefore a bit possible and all the more scary for it, though it comes across as a bit knee-jerk in some bits.

Yes, Emma Thompson is getting a bit annoying. Possibly more annoying because she's doing a generic northern accent, though I don't really have a problem with her in some stuff. Maybe I'm confusing her do-gooder preachy real-life persona with some of the stuff she plays, though I can't see I've seen many things with her in.

I'm rather late to the party with this. I confess - it completely passed me by initially and I only heard of it through word of mouth.

I watched the first episode last night and really enjoyed it (despite not being a huge fan of Russell Tovey). Shades of Black Mirror - which can't be a bad thing....

THanks for that. I watched the ep on last night, flicked it on and it held my attention. Was amused to see a few friends in it. I agree about Thompson, her pronunciations on a few things were a tad annoying. But overall I enjoyed it.
One thing that did bug me was the daughter, she was upgrade fine, but the abilities she had felt like superpowers!
Also something I didn't get, why did the bald toady bloke get rid of the other bloke at the end?

If you only watched last night's episode, it won't make sense. You'll have to watch the previous episodes ro understand it.

Because he caused the death of his brother... watch the previous episode and all will be clear... well maybe!

Well, it'd make an amount of sense as he visited he "other bloke" and told him that he was to blame for his brothers death and the "previously on..." bit probably gave enough too.

We've been watching this. Not many people we know have been, though.

I would say that it is quite good.

It is Black Mirror-ish in places, much of it plausible, some of it very implausible. Quite powerful stuff at times.

As it was filmed around the Manchester area, with some scenes in Liverpool, we also spend time peering at the backgrounds to identify the many locations used.
