Nazi War Machines - Channel 4
Discussion
This looks like it should be good. It's hosted by James Holland - who does know what he is talking about.
It was on last night but is available on Channel 4's watch again facility. That's my TV sorted for this evening.

Saw most of it, was quite good with some new insights (for me at least) re. the 109 flying characteristics and construction time. Mind you I’m a sucker for these types of programmes on the Discovery channels, my ideal programme would be something like ‘Abandoned Nazi engineered mega factories under the drained oceans near the Eastern front’.

They're the programmes I avoid as they usually reveal nothing new, use old and hackneyed stock footage and don't usually have a well known historian writing the script and/or presenting it.If you read Holland's books on the War in the West (he's produced two so far, the third and final installment has not yet been published), you will see that he is extremely critical of how the Nazi government mismanaged (or didn't manage at all) the various arms manufacturers.
Highly recommended -

It is good - as pointed out, toned down for a general audience but interesting and engaging.
I’d echo Eric’s recommendations on War in the West - very good modern interpretation looking at material output and production strategy as well as the strategic and tactical military aspects. Engagingly written too so highly accessible.
His recent book on Normandy also very good.

The other night I was watching the episode on German guns when my 9 year old daughter got out of bed and came downstairs.
I said she could watch a bit of television but I wasn’t going to change channels, hoping it would put her off and she’d go back to bed.
She really got into it and was asking me about bullets.
I’m such a terrible father

one bug bear of mine is when watching pretty much any "documentary" about hidden bunkers or things to do with WW2 its always the "Nazis" did this or that. there is an absence any mention that we were at war with "Germany".
Its all Nazi scientist did xyz or when the Nazis invaded Poland or developed x terrible weapon, or Nazi guards did xyz - its never German soldiers, German scientist or Germany.
