BBC I Player has a really good documentary about the Jonestown mass suicide from 1978.

For those not in the know, basically mass cult by a guy called Jim Jones who after a few years of being the crack pot leader in the States upped shop to Guyana and set up a commune with a 900 or so followers.
Concerned relatives and people who escaped previously start making noises and a US Congressman decided to investigate......the rest is in the documentary.

2 Part with the first setting the scene but the 2nd is where it get surreal with actual video of what happened.

I remember when this was news. The mad thing is, cultism in the US is higher now than it ever was.

It’s where the saying Keep drinking the Kool Aid comes from.
Even though it was Flavour Aid.

I fancied a trip to visit when I was in the area but timings didn’t work out.
I’ll see if I can watch it over here, cheers.

They count a pizza as one of your five a day and a vegetable. That shows you the level of intellect in the US.
