Youtube recommended - WTF is going on?

No Pomegranates, Horse playing the piano, Luke Skywalker in Turkey...these and many others have appeared in the last couple of days, all around 30 seconds long.
All my usual interesting stuff in mixed in with these stupid little videos?

Anyone else seeing these?

Who doesn't start their day by searching for "Horse Playing Piano"?

I have a theory the YouTube recommended column has two purposes.

1. Show you videos related to the one you're watching, as you'd expect;
2. Present you with videos specifically chosen to identify you as belonging to a particular advertising demographic. So, at a high level: user has clicked on a car video unrelated to the current thing they were watching, therefore this user must like cars so we'll pop them into that targeted advertising channel.

Yes! Had the “no pomegranates” 1 pop up yesterday into what is usually purely cars, buildings and watches. Thought it a bit strange.

Thanks to Youtube recommendation I now know what a Bikini Haul is. It's an interesting genre.

Yep - got that one too.

They definitely push some channels at certain times and practically force you to click on the st thing. For some reason they seem to have certain favourites that they plug to death.
