End of earth film with silver man?

Hopefully someone has a better memory than me. I'm looking the name of a film, an end of the earth type film I think we're there was a silver bodied humanoid figure on some sort of surf board type thing.
He was to destroy earth but was eventually talked out of it. I think if he didn't destroy earth his home planet would be destroyed by another unseen being. Sorry can't remember actors or anything else!!
Google draws a blank for me.
