Radio stations - why do they all play the same rubbish?
Discussion
When I'm working, decorating at home or working on the car etc I listen to the radio a lot during the day. However, I am getting to the point at which I can't listen to it any more. Every channel seems to play endless dross. I'll put my hands up and say that I'm in my 60s so it's clearly a generational thing, but can I be the only one who detests the fluff they call music now, the absolute rubbish churned out by boy bands and what seems like the majority of singers now. It's totally subjective, of course, but the music they play largely consists of dance music, which should be confined to clubs, or bland, pointless songs with no creativity whatsoever.
My default channel used to be Radio 2, but can anyone please tell me the difference between Radio 2 and Radio 1 now. Who exactly are their target audience now? I like Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine, and the chat, but the music is must awful. At two p.m. the radio goes off, regardless, because the awful Steve Wright comes on , the oldest teenager on radio. He used to be OK but every time he prattles on about serious jocking I could put my foot through the radio. His taste in music is risible and the only decent music he's ever played is when listeners get to choose, sometimes very well. .
Do they ever considering playing something different, perhaps Bob Dylan's new song about the assassination of JFK, which is a powerful masterpiece? I don't expect to hear music from the 50s, 60s and 70s etc all the time but occasionally playing something of quality every so often wouldn't hurt. I usually resort to playing Spotify through my Bluetooth speaker and my taste includes people like Springsteen, Dylan, Joan Baez, T Rex, Charles C Frank, Joan Shelley, Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Rayna Gellert, Johhny Flynn, Laura Marling, the Handsome Family, Gillian Welch, Mark Knopfler, John Prine, Fleetwood Mac, Townes Van Zandt, The Balfa Bros, Rambling Jack Elliott, Iris Dement, Neil Young etc. etc. etc.
There are many others including many from films and TV programmes like The Hateful Eight, Deadwood etc. In my humble opinion the best "pop" song ever written is "To Sir with Love" by Lulu, but new stuff is just formulaic crap. Am I the only one? Am I better off just playing my stuff on Spotify, or can anyone recommend any radio stations out there that try to play decent music? Hopefully, my choice of music won't attract the trolls, it's all down to personal taste and the (in my opinion) depressing lack of choice out there.

You are beyond help.
Yes, I should amend that. I like Jeremy Vine some of the time. He does come out with some good one liners, but generally is at his best when he's being semi serious. I choose to ignore the occasionally stupid questions he asks, like the time he asked a former Spitfire pilot what it's like to bale out with an ejector seat.Edited by lornemalvo on Saturday 25th April 12:06
Try Radio Paradise:

Only streaming though, I don't think it's available OTA.

6 music? It might be a bit too 'fresh' for the OP in the week but I find the weekend shows (particularly on Sundays) wonderfully 'timeless'!
Craig Charles show between 6-9 on Saturday is the best on the airwaves in my opinion. his friday afternoon stand-in yesterday was brilliant. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
