What I mean is film locations that are now famous, or more famous and get tourist footfall for being in a film.

I'm thinking of the steps in Philadelphia that are used in Rocky.
The village of Pennan in Local Hero.
Glenfinnan Viaduct in various Harry Potter things.

I should imagine that Arley Hall (used in Peaky Blinders) is more popular now than it was. The "Yanks" festival in Saddleworth is a huge event, dragging droves of 60 something GI's in from all over the country. Although not up there amongst the greats in terms of WW2 films, it means a lot to the locals.

Bit of a film nerd here and like visiting sites have been used in movies etc.

More recent ones I've been to, not including those which are more famous for being just landmarks (such as Golden Gate Bridge, White House etc)

Exorcist Steps in Georgetown
LA town Hall (View To A Kill)
Ghostbusters Fire Station, NYC
Friends building, NYC
Katz Deli, NYC (When Harry Met Sally)
Scranton, PA, various locations such as the Steamtown Mall, Cooper's Seafood, Poor Richard's, Alfredo's (Office US)

Hobbit on in Matamata.

And not so famous anymore, but The Last Samurai was filmed local to me. The part where they train the soldiers to shoot is the local cricket ground.

North Essex and South Suffolk still attract a lot of people doing 'Lovejoy Tours' (which sounds like a dogging outing to me!).

My OH is a huge GoT fan and was going to book a GoT Tour in Croatia in August for her Birthday but earliest we could get would have been October.

Pretty much anywhere in LA, for me though these two locations are significant (bottom one probably gets more tourists):

As said, everywhere in LA, but for me personally, Neptune's Net is a good one (Point Break, the first Fast and Furious).

Notting Hill in London is an obvious one closer to home.

I've wanted to go there for years & planned to do so last summer but managed to completely cock-up the route & ended up stuck on a massive freeway into the city weeping

Whenever we go away we research what films have been done there. From memory, we've visited these places:

Paris: "Amelie", "Ronin" (the bar - it was burnt out when we were there), "The Bourne Identity"
Tuscany: Stayed at the B&B which was Russel Crowe's Villa in "Gladiator", and recreated the "walking through wheat" shots with in it the background
Sardinia: Various locations from "The Spy Who Loved Me"
Florence: Scenes from "Hannibal"
Tokyo: had a drink in the Park Hyatt hotel used in "Lost in Translation"
Berlin: "Hanna" (the dilapidated theme park)

I think the definitive answer to this is Popeye's Village, Malta. The set was abandoned and is now a themed tourist destination.

Yunkai from Game of Thrones, known locally as Ait-Ben-Haddou. That was my bike, and I rode it there:

Managed to get that shot with nobody else in it, but there were groups of tourists around.

I don't know if it's more famous, but a friend got married on Lake Como and we did the tours around Casino Royale locations - planning to go back again in the next couple of years but need to get a 2nd mortgage to fund the trip

I've never seen GOT but that looks a pretty cool location.

On a similar theme has anyone been any of the Star Wars locations in Tunisia?

To be honest neither have I! It's a real village and there are a handful of people who still live there.

About 50 yards away, in the direction the bike is pointing, was also the location for some of the scenes from Gladiator.

Your pic also made me think of Dan Walsh's book.

I should think "The Skywalker Ranch" in Tunisia is a good example.
