Yeah I know; only 20 years late to the party!

Always knew of its existence but have only very vague recollections of watching a few snippets first time around. Anyway started watching it last night on that C4 on demand thing. Loved it! Great cast and some proper funny moments. Talking of the cast, hang on, wait a bloody minute who's that? It's only Jim from Friday Night Dinner!!! He was on screen for a good few minutes before the camera focussed right in on his face and he said something in a very particular 'Jim' type of way... I thought no, can't be, paused it and looked it up and yep it's Jim all right!

That's it I'm definitely in. Only done series 1 episode 1 so far but looking forward to seeing how this pans out, kind of in my own personal time machine never having seen it before.

What do we reckon, telly fans? Not a programme you hear much about, not even in a cult classic sort of way. Is there a reason for that or have I just completely missed the boat? biggrin

It's one of the best UK comedies ever, in my opinion. Stands up to repeat watching as there are so many references that you miss first time around, and the only thing that really dates it is how much the rent was for the flat!

They showed the first series back to back the other week and Edgar Wright did a tweet along, which might be worth going back and having a look at.

Cheers, sounds like I'm in for a bit of a treat then. Honestly don't know how this one's managed to pass me by all these years!

Jim from Friday night dinner is one of his poorer roles imo. He was much better in spaced, big train, and green wing. But then again i don't like Friday night dinner

Fair enough, different strokes and all that. I really quite enjoyed Friday Night Dinner and Jim especially always made me laugh.

Anyway will be settling down for episode 2 of Spaced shortly, just waiting for the wife to clear off so I can have some quality me time ha ha!

Must have watched this at least 3 or 4 times start to finish.

As mentioned above, one of the best TV shows ever made.

My friends and I spent much of our late teens/early 20s quoting this.

Jealous that you are getting to watch it for the first time.

EDIT. Balls to it, been a few years, going to go make a Rum and Coke and then start it again.

Are you talking abiut mark heap? Dr alan statham? ming the merciless? He's class. Throw them into the pit of fire! Now, it's time for teletubbies...

oP Spaced is awesome. Esp. If you're a movie geek, they get sooooo many references in there - some obvious others really obscure..

Big Train, Green Wing, now we're talking. That whole period and people was awesome. Probably helps that I was at university and approaching 'peak beer'...

Another 2 from that era:

Modern Toss
Crapston Villas

Knife and Wife amused me for a while but noone else seems to have heard of it!

Really enjoyed eps. 2 they had a flat warming party. Been recognising a number of faces from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Also the paper boy who turned up at the party plays the photographer in After Life (and also popped up in Game of Thrones, another series I've only just seen).

The way in which some of Spaced is filmed reminds me very much of Hot Fuzz, which incidentally would most definitely be in my top ten films list.

Really pleased I started to watch this now, very much enjoying it!

PS Crapston Villas as mentioned above.. I have a REALLY hazy memory of this but pretty sure I enjoyed it even though I don't have the foggiest what it was about. Is it available anywhere to view now? Just the title alone tells me I'll like it, sounds like something from Viz laugh

If you get a chance to watch it on DVD, look at the subtitle options, there's an Homagomater (or something like that) mode that tells you where scenes or lines are referencing some other tv series or film. Virtually every scene is referencing something!

I always thought Coupling was about the best comedy of the era, but Spaced and Green Wing run it a close second.

One of the best things ever to grace a TV screen.

Just wait until you get to the paintballing episode ("Battles"?). Absolutely brilliant.

Oh it's not Jim is it. But yeah mark heap. Ming the merciless is great, i hadn't even seen the original when i saw big train, he does it so well. And with kevin eldon, a great pairing.

I must have watched Spaced at least 3 or 4 times through. It remains the best comedy series ever made for me.

I can't remember when I watched it first time, I think I might have been too young when it was on TV perhaps.

Regardless, it's been ten years maybe, but I've watched a few episodes recently and found them great. My partner just doesn't like it at all!

I think it's time to rewatch green wing though - that's probably my favourite comedy!

Used to love Crapston Villas! I’ve got modern toss on dvd in the attic I think. Some brilliant comedy around that era
