Anyone else captivated by this?

It's like TV Valium - in a good way!

After leaving the forces, he vowed to never shout again.
The guy is a legend and was watched all the time whilst at school/uni.

"...and we'll give this tree here a little friend". Love it smile

I could watch him all day.

Died far to young and is still good to watch today.

Spent many hours watching his paintings take shape - he makes it look so easy.

BBC4 dedicated a couple of hours to him the other night, he really did paint that fast.

There are some of his programs on Netflix. It's great tv to sleep through, something about the lighting and the slightly fuzzy quality to the picture and the sound recording makes me nod off while I'm watching it.

Never heard of him until we chanced upon the re-run of his series recently. Totally captivated now. OK, so the subjects are a bit ‘samey’ (mountains, big dramatic skies, bubbling streams, lots of conifers etc), but his techniques are amazing and the end results just great. He often gets to the stage about 3/4 of the way through and introduces a great big tree in the foreground or starts to mess about with the river bank, and you think, oh st, he’s really going to mess this up now. But he never does :j

Interesting article on him here Bob Ross. I wonder if the resurgence in his popularity is the manifestation of a yearning for a ‘simpler’ time, as opposed to the bullst ridden society we seem to be creating for ourselves now.

There is a BobRoss channel on Twitch where they stream the shows back to back over the weekend.

I had no idea who he was, but few months ago flicking the channels landed on bbc4 and his show was on.
I couldn't give 2 sts about art normally but something about his program is just hypnotic coupled with his soothing voice, ended up watching a few of his programmes all in a row.

I didn't realise how popular he is and now I'm watching all the parodies above just laughing me ass off, there are so many on YouTube.

This one is quite good too

I used to watch it in the early days of Sky, but caught a couple of episodes recently.

TV Valium is a great description. It was just so relaxing to watch.

For years the (Sky) EPG showed his half-hour programme as "Joy of Pain.." due to having to truncate the title.

Sadly times have changed and now it is billed as "The Joy of.." which just doesn't quite cut it for anticipation. wink
