New Masterchef Australia Series on UK TV (Watch)
Discussion
Discovered today that the latest series started on Monday just gone on W/Watch (must be the first time my Sky box has spotted and started recording a new series).
If you did not see the last one or hear the fuss, there are new judges. The original tale was the show was losing viewers series after series and needed a refresh and there were discussions going on with Gary, Matt and George. All of a sudden there was a Twitter post from George (think that's the correct combination) saying the three had just been fired, taking effect from the end of that series (which was close). This must have pissed off someone within the TV company as they released details that what really happened was while holidaying together the three judges had formed their own management company and wanted a big pay rise, pointing out the show was as much about them as anything. The gambit failed ...
The new judges are:
Senior chef - Jock Zonfrillo - very well respected Scottish chef who previously worked with Gordon Ramsey under Marco Pierre White and is meant to be one of the top cooks and restaurateurs over there.
'Junior' chef - Andy Allen - fourth series winner and now a successful restaurateur
Food critic - Melissa Leong - doesn't have quite the same pedigree as Matt Preston (but then who does) but is respected and the suspicious minds would suggest may also have been chosen to attract more male viewers.
For the new series the contestants are 24 runner ups from the previous series who made the top 10. It makes an interesting combination for while many of the earlier contestants have now been working in the industry for 10+ years, the quality rose over the series. The ones who will probably drop out early are those who are writers and show hosts, with one possible exception - as Poh is back and already seems to have far more attention than the other contestants (yeah I know they always claimed the first series was never a fix, despite Poh being effectively eliminated twice but making it to the final and the penultimate test being impossible for the favourite to get through (Chris is back as well - but will not have been seen as a role model as he drank beer during the cooks).
Still could be interesting.

It was interesting and very entertaining to watch...
I only ever watch the Aussie show as watching the UK/US/etc is frankly embarrassing when its Masterchef and they are producing utter b
ks and its nothing that I would say is Masterchef. Yet I watch the Aussie folks and some of the stuff they produce puts most real chefs to shame.

Sure it's a TV show but one with a very specific scope, with most the people on the forum who are likely to be interested more likely to look in F&D not here?
