The Queens Gambit
Discussion
Started watching this last night and ended up watching first 3 episodes. I really liked it. Good period stuff (cars, fashion, smoking everywhere etc) and excellent acting. Will carry on to the end with this one. Although about chess which can be a bit boring on TV the actual games were not intrusive to the story.
Really enjoyed episode 1 BUT ...
Without revealing too much (i.e. no spoilers please...), can those who've watched this answer a quick question?
The use of one particular word, and the associated explanation, were a bit borderline/uncomfortable viewing with my 14-year-old lad (yeah, maybe I'm just getting old...).
Is there any recurrence, or related story arc that might concern a parent, in the later episodes?
TIA (answer by PM probably best, if there is anything plot-related).
Cheers, Dave

I thought it did a good job of portraying attitudes as they were at the time.
Sure, there may be some content (and language) which cause some folks to raise an eyebrow, but then it does have a 15 rating for a reason.
If some elements of TQG made for uneasy viewing with your lad, I'd certainly take Hidden Figures of the watch list - and that would be a shame.

If it’s the girls discussing a sex act, nope you have nothing to worry about later on Without revealing too much (i.e. no spoilers please...), can those who've watched this answer a quick question?

The most I've been invested in a character for a long time, especially when she revisited a few things in the last few episodes. Beautifully written and performed and looked amazing.
I don't think it's a coincidence that this is only 7 episodes long, I got bored a long time ago of TV shows that are written purposely to stretch them out to 50+ episodes, Agents of Shield and Orphan Black were two culprits I never got to the end of.

I have not enjoyed a series as much as this one since Breaking Bad. The last episode was beautifully done and I am glad they didn't succumb to the obvious trope of the russians being the bad guys.
I also went online and played my first game of chess in 40 years. I smashed them to bits but embarrassingly I had completely forgot about the stalemate rule
