Disappointed - old favourites are actually, well, crap

....and TV programs!
About this time last year, they were showing Miami Vice on Forces TV. We have finally got round to watching them and, in all honesty, they are very poor. You could never watch two back-to-back.
The acting seems ham, the internal sets cheaply constructed, action sequences poor and the scripts seem one-dimensional. The sound is tin can quality.
The flash cars and houses are great, but it has not really stood the test of time.
Back in the late 80s it was our “must watch” program. Michael Mann was supposed to be the hotshot scriptwriter.

Any of the CHiPs/Dukes of Hazzard/Knightrider.
Great for nostalgia and old cars, utter poppycock otherwise.
I've recorded loads of Dukes of Hazzard from Forces TV recently, but I'm struggling to get around to watching any.Great for nostalgia and old cars, utter poppycock otherwise.
The big one for me was "Survivors". I had very fond memories of that series, and had looked around for a cheap box set. When the BBC remade it, they showed one or two of the original episodes on BBC4, and they were terrible - shot in half-darkness, just impossible to watch, and I'm glad I never found the box set. Strangely, "Day of the Triffids" from around the same time was also re-shown a little after, and that was much, much better.
I'm currently re-watching V which is being shown on Forces TV. The story is still pretty good in the main, though the characters do the usual stupid stuff Hollywood require to progress a story.
However, the acting really is pretty crap and the special effects are an absolute joke, even for 1983.
But, I'm enjoying it though, so a bit disappointed in how bad its aged etc, but not so disappointed I won't finish it.

V had a remake, quite liked it but was cancelled However, the acting really is pretty crap and the special effects are an absolute joke, even for 1983.

I started watching National Lampoon's Vacation yesterday having had fond memories of it - 10 minutes in and I'm finding it virtually unwatchable. Quite disappointing.
There must be loads of films you enjoyed in your younger days but are really quite crap... let's have them
Ditto, I tried watching this very film last month and only managed 5 minutes.

The Equalizer was one of my favourites growing up. All episodes were on again recently. I tried watching a couple and gave up. I used to look forward to the "revenge" show downs at the end but it was very lame and with very obvious stunt doubles. You can never go back apparently and it's best to keep it as a memory.
Also tried watching one of the early Indiana Jones films with my daughter. She was not impressed!

I don't feel that way at all, we watch films like National Lampoon, Trains Planes and Automobiles, Uncle Buck etc pretty much every year and I'd watch Dazed and Confused every week till the day I die and not get bored.

As another example - Home Alone and Home Alone 2. Still haven't found a better family Christmas movie that everyone from the 6 year old to granny can watch and enjoy.
For TV I'd be more inclined to agree. TV really has moved the game on substantially in the past 15 years or so (acting especially, but also set design, scripts etc), I find some old series unwatchable now. I never feel that about movies though.

Agree on Home Alones, superb slapstick. As another example - Home Alone and Home Alone 2. Still haven't found a better family Christmas movie that everyone from the 6 year old to granny can watch and enjoy.

I watched Weird Science about three times a week for about 3 years in my teens.
I bought it when it was released onto DVD, about 15 years ago. But I haven't been able to bring myself to watch
