Just finished watching the first season of this on the Disney streaming service
It’s a National geographic remake of the 1983 film of the same name.
Very good it was too!
Can’t wait for season two next year.
I've been watching this too and very enjoyable. How did you watch the last 2 episodes (ep 7 and 8) when they haven't been released on Disney+ yet? It’s a National geographic remake of the 1983 film of the same name.

If it comes out as a box set, I'll buy it then.
I always liked the original 1983 film and really love the 1979 book.
BUT, people must realise that the book and/or film are not accurate histories of the period and events and some of the assertions made in both can be misconstrued. The movie in particular is EXCEEDINGLY misleading in places.
It would be interesting to see whether the TV series is historically more accurate or whether it sticks with the conventions of the movie and the book.

The Disney mini series portrays most of the astronauts as scotch guzzling womanisers.

That's only partially true The Disney mini series portrays most of the astronauts as scotch guzzling womanisers.

Do buy the book. It is a literary masterpiece and my favourite book by Tom Wolfe.
I've just read a review of the TV series and apparently it doesn't really mention Chuck Yeager. If that is the case, that is a massive flaw as one of the central themes of the original book and film is the fact that some expert test pilots who had spent years flying highly dangerous and risky rocket planes out in the Californian high desert were more or less discounted as being unsuitable for the new role of "astronaut.
If it has whetted your appetite for delving into the REAL story behind the rocket pilots and the first astronauts, this documentary is well worth a watch. I first saw it on TV back in 1981.
