Spotted this on BBC iplayer looks interesting.

''Mangrove tells the true story of Frank Crichlow, whose West Indian restaurant Mangrove, a lively community hub in London’s Notting Hill, attracted locals, activists, intellectuals and artists. ''

First film was quite good. The one on last night, 'Lovers Rock' was poor. Could only watch for 20 mins then switched off. Poor story line, poor script, poor acting, character clichés. It reminded me of one of those amateur film competition entries. Expected better.

Think it was number two off five films from Steve McQueen, hopefully the others will be better.

Looks like only two of us where watching! Hope the actual ratings are a bit better.

Enjoyed the third film, some good acting and represented the era well. I spoke to a mate, who joined the Met around that time, he said the depiction of Hendon etc was very accurate. He also said the film depicted the level of 'racism' and bigotry in the Force, at the time, about right.

1/3/2 so far for me, although I’ve had Silly Games in my head for over a week now laugh

It’s a great series, powerful and an education in what people of colour have gone through in this country in relatively recent times.

Watching "Mangrove" at the moment. Pretty hard going at the half way point. Not because it's a poor programme, but because of the way it shows police harassment of the black restaurant owner and his family. Hope it ends with me feeling more cheerful.

I was around in London in the 1970s if it make any difference.

I downloaded it then didn't actually watch it. I think the 2 hr episodes put me off. Should I do it or no?

Well it is highly rated and i guess a personal thing really. From the posts on here not many have watched it. They are more like play drama type films, the quality and acting is up there with the best productions.

The quality in every way is first-rate. Without giving too much away, "Mangrove" was not entirely dark in the end. I guess that if it had have been it'd have put too many viewers off. I'm going to watch Lover's Rock next to see what the musical content is like.
