I just got finished watching through Spender after seeing it mentioned on the Sierra Cosworth thread a while ago, I absolutely loved it. Found the first episode slow but gave it another chance, thought it was ace. Every episode including the Christmas special is on YouTube, anyone else here watched it in recentish times?

I can remember watching it in the day, but had completely forgotten about it until this thread.
Jimmy Nail was also a pop star at the time too.
Can’t think of anything he did after Spender though - he seemed to disappear.
Think he does a lot of theatre now. I only realised Ain't No Doubt was him after I started watching Jimmy Nail was also a pop star at the time too.

Didn’t he have a cool black Saab 900 turbo as well.
Don't specifically recall Spender having a 900T, but I seem to remember Danny Kane smoking around in one in The Paradise Club.Googling it there’s a couple of forums mentioning a black Saab in Spender.
Wonder if one of the baddies drove one might need to watch them to check!

Just realised it's been nearly 30 years since it started.
I used to watch it on a Tuesday night with my Grandma and Great Uncle.
Both were Geordie's and they used to translate some of the dialogue for me.
Brilliant show!
There was an episode where Spender's friend, DS Boyd, needs a car and manages to get a Calibra 4x4 Turbo.
It all seems so long ago.

That was one of the last episodes where his dog gets run over and he goes after the car thief that did it. Got very dark towards the end of the series I used to watch it on a Tuesday night with my Grandma and Great Uncle.

Brilliant series, featuring the Cassie,. One of the cars they were using got knicked apparently. Think one of the episodes featured a chase with a Quattro UR. Loved Jimmy Nail, excellent in Croc shoes as well.
Yeah that was the 2nd episode where he goes after a ringing operation. The Cossie that was nicked from the set was the first one a 2wd, I think it got recovered though as the tax expired in 1998 Here's the playlist I watched it from if anyone is interested. It's well worth watching or rewatching even though the first episode is a bit slow. Came out well before I was born but still found it to be an ace series

From what I understand the 2wd was nicked and burnt out hence why he then switched to a 4wd.By all accounts the car had round the clock guards so it was not nicked again.

I remember a story of the Jimmy Nail program where he drove one (Spender?) - they had a bodayguard for the cossie as so many people had tried to knick it.
Having said that I remember walking through Newcastle city centre and seeing a lad who looked about 12 driving a car out of the multi storey with his mates following in another car. Obviously stolen and very casual on a Saturday afternoon.
Seems mental looking back that taking cars was so common!

No mention of a 900T here, but some other interesting metal

An absolutely epic series. People always ask why it was never repeated much. There are rumours round this neck of the woods that there was nefariousness in attributing scrips to people they shouldn't have been attributed to which caused production companies and broadcasters to get nervous about legal action.
I have precisely zero concrete evidence of that and it's probably a complete load of rubbish but those are the rumours.
