I watched about one and a half episodes.

For me, it just didn't quite make it. It's almost brilliant, but just slightly missed the mark for me and I found it a bit frustrating. Shame though

It's the kind of thing my wife would normally avoid like the plague, sexual violence and rape, misogyny, the C word on a regular basis, and eyes being poked out. But for some reason, it's all done in such an OTT way that it's a bit like watching a cartoon, so it's acceptable. You wouldn't avoid Roadrunner or Tom & Jerry because you didn't like to see cruelty to animals.

I am planning to try out the line from episode one and the wedding night.... "I hope my seed has found purchase" but given that we're late 50s, I expect the reply will be along the lines of "I bloody doubt it".

Same here.

It’s a sort of soft porn poldark.

There’s loads of these coming out now like Bridgerton etc where they’re making the great British period drama a bit racier.

I see that the Russian born Count Orlov has suddenly become Indian though... kind of ruins it for the sake of PC.

I would guess that if a white Russian appeared as Ghandi, that would be totally outrageous. rofl

Indeed, or a white British actor playing Ghandi, someone like Ben Kingsley. There'd be uproar.

Really?

Ben Kingsley was born Krishna Bhanji on December 31, 1943 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England

His father, Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, was a Kenyan-born medical doctor, of Gujarati Indian descent. His mother had Russian Jewish blood.

Ive been watching this with Mrs RC. I think it's brilliant. So many laugh out loud moments for me. Unsurprisingly, not so many for my wife.

Anyway, huzzah!
