Episode 1 on bbc1 this monday, 8.30pm

I was wondering how many episodes they can actually show, without editing, without getting millions of complaints....

I think some of the major's scenes will be heavily edited.

The context of the Major using words like 'wogs' was showing him for the dinosaur he was, so editing the scene out because of words rather than context is missing the point entirely.

We watch episodes randomly and regularly on Netflix. My 16 year old stepdaughter loves it and often quotes lines from it perfectly.

Not sure if its over familarity, or it hasnt aged well, but I turned over. More cringeworthy then funny. Might be me, though...

I bought the Fawlty Towers DVD a few months ago, assuring my children that it was hilarious. We sat through a couple of episodes without so much as a titter. I then skipped to the "funny bits" and discovered that they weren't as hilarious as once they had seemed.

So no, it isn't just you.

Hadn’t seen it for a while... loved it. Of course it’s dated, but for those of us of a certain age still wonderful.
Also reminded of working round the corner from the little hotel used for outdoor scenes.

I enjoyed it more than I expected to. I've seen them all, many times, and was expecting to just sit through it, but I'd forgotten how good some bits of it are.

It was not some sort of breakthrough or anything. Just the usual british comedy of sustained misunderstanding and lots of running up and down stairs.
If there wasn't an episode of the vicar arriving just as basils trousers were falling down there would have been eventually.
JC didn't really do much since but seems to show up in tiny parts in US tv shows. No doubt he likes a paycheck with little effort needed in return.
Always digging at the UK for not showering him in money and glory even though he has plenty.
Looking at last nights effort they didn't even bother to polish up the picture for BBC1 so you think you are on a dross ukgold or yesterday channel.
Seems like a test to please the tory masters that the bbc isn't all woke and can we keep our well paid jobs please.

I see Mr Fun has arrived on the scene to cheer us up.

Sorry to hear your life has turned out so badly. I hope things start to look up for you.

No, the point was to show the hypocrisy of Basil. The major uses those words whilst discussing cricket, and Basil is appalled. Because obviously Basil is a much younger more enlightened sort of chap. But soon afterwards, basil goes to visit his wife in hospital and the black doctor walks in, and Basil takes a step backwards in shock. That's the point of the scene, as far as I've always understood it.
