Just been watching "The Boys" on Prime. I was told it was a show all about superheroes but the Avengers, it is not! yikes

The Butcher Character in the show: With those mannerisms and that accent, is Karl Urban going to replace Jonny Depp in the pirates films?

I just wish they'd make a Dredd 2.

The film was too serious. The Stallone film was a closer match in style to the comic strip, I think. With storylines like "The Attack of the One Ton Fatties" the 2000 AD comic strip was written with tongue firmly in cheek.

Evidently being closer to the comic does not automatically a good film make, as proved by the Stallone film which was utter pants in every way.

Dredd on the othed hand was superb in every way, probably because they didnt try to follow a silly comic.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Just a point of note: Without that "silly comic" Dredd wouldn't exist.

I think they were both good but in different ways. They were aimed at different audiences.

Until I read the backstory I assumed Billy Butcher was meant to be Australian.......

Whats the point of your point? They should have made another silly comic-based film rather than make a good film? They had already tried that and it didnt turn out too well, so it would have been a bit daft to do that again.

Wasn't that the heavy metal Dredd series in the megazine? I remember the fatties lol

Normal dredd strip's were fairly serious.

It hasn't stopped the Avengers Franchise.

Whether or not you think the first film was silly or not is your prerogative. I personally enjoyed it for what it was, a not too serious comic book based action flick.

There are as many different Dredds as there have been writers, some are serious, some are comic, but they are all Dredd. I like both Dredd films for different reasons, but for me, they are both authentic Dredd (apart from Stallone removing the helmet).

I dont think ive seen any of the avengers films, probably because that silly pg-ish rated stuff doesnt appeal to me, but Dredd did because it had more of the Robocop style ott mega violence aspect to it. The Boys had that sort of appeal also and i enjoyed that a lot.

I did like Ironman 1 though.

I must admit that I too liked the first Iron Man film but I am in no doubt that if anyone other than Robert Downey Jr had played lead, I don't think I would have enjoyed it so much.

I do prefer the darker films though. I suppose that is why I liked the original Watchmen.

I hope The Boys doesn't go the same way as other shows that enjoyed. Different genre but Defiance, and Firefly both got canned prematurely.

The Boys is shot through with a dark humour that appeals.

I quite enjoyed The Boys. It took me a while to recognise that it was Anthony Starr playing Homelander. He was also in Banshee, which was VERY different....

Banshee was fantastic.
