Alien / Aliens TV Series
Discussion
I don't think this has been discussed before?
FX TV (which I assume is Disney+ now) is making a new TV series based on the Alien franchise. Noah Hawley is in charge, I've never seen it, but he makes the Fargo TV series lots of people like.
It's going to be face huggers and xenomorphs, none of this 'Engineers' stuff, but won't feature Ripley / Hicks etc. The background of the story is going to be around the White / Blue Collar division which was the undertone of the first two films.
I hope it's good, the franchise has had a lot more misses than hits, but all the ingredients are there was a great TV series. I just wonder if it's very popular if they can avoid the obvious traps of either, making more and more sensational Aliens to try to keep the drama up, or worse go the full Walking Dead and just repeat the same old, same old until they're just not scary or interesting anymore.

There's a load of books & comics they can draw on if they wanted so there's scope for it to be OK, if they have the budget.
The only problem is the story can only really head in one direction - things go to s
t and people die - so while there's an arc it isn't really a long one. Outbreak on settlement, bigger fight, Earth War, hunt for big solution, more fighting, done.
It's always going to be much more Aliens than Alien though; one is a tidy self contained horror, the other is the one with the big story universe.

Ooh!
Done well, I think I'd enjoy a limited series fleshing out Hadley's Hope as a main story leading into the sinister need to weaponise the beasties.
As someone said there will be books/graphic novels to draw on too.
In my mind series one climaxes with the last stand.
How far does it run? Does it then skirt around and beyond The Sulaco mission?

Noah Hawley - “It’s not a Ripley story. She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it. It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of “What happens if you can’t contain it?” are more immediate.”

I suppose they could have based it on the colony arriving after the Nostromo and the period between then and Aliens, but then we know what happens and it's a relatively short story. By basing it elsewhere they can get more out of it by stretching it and going in different directions and different stories.

Moving the Alien story to earth is something that the Studios always wanted and the writers / directors all refused, obviously they did with the AvP films, but they were sNoah Hawley - “It’s not a Ripley story. Sounds like a post apocalyptic type story, it'll need a massive budget, or it'll be another Walking Dead.

Surely surely the curse of Aliens franchise has to be broken sometime soon. Please?
Allegedly genuine:
"FX is looking to cast a man in his early 30s, open ethnicity, to play “Hermit.” Hermit is a medic with the Army. The prototype they are looking for is Domhnall Gleeson
FX is also looking to cast a woman of any age and any ethnicity to play “Wendy.” Wendy is Hermit’s brother, but stuck in another person’s body. Until now, Hermit believed his sister was killed in an experiment, but comes to realize that she is in fact in this soldier’s body. They are looking for someone who is well muscled and able to do action. FX is also looking for someone with comedy chops. Danai Gurira is the prototype for this role"

I'm a huge Alien-lore fanboy and I'm torn between wanting to see some of the novels converted into episodes and knowing that, on the face of it, no matter what they decide to do it'll very probably be crap compared to what I'd expect.
A nice Earth War with Dr Waidslaw Orona where the Aliens break loose on Earth would be good but maybe a little too "walking dead-ish", some of the "Go to the home world and see the different groups of aliens and what hunts them, look for Royal jelly etc" type stories would be good for an individual episode or two but not a series etc.
