Anyone else watched the YouTube channel Soft White Underbelly? Such an interesting channel full of interviews of the darker side of American Sub Cultures.

Yep subbed here.

Apparently did a lot for that inbred family and he stayed in contact. Facebook replies are quite interesting, many seem to think it was pure exploitation and have no clue what a actually documentary is.

Yeah i have watched a few interviews with Mark and he seems a genuine person especially the help he gave Amanda. He sees his videos as educational. I also love how unbiased he is and respectful.

Has anyone seen any of these videos?

Powerful and disturbing stuff in many cases.

I need to finish watching the one where he takes them to the supermarket.

He seems to have done a few interviews with people from Appalacia.

I watched that one yesterday. Likes the part where one of them suddenly sees the basket full of watermelons biggrin

Noticed he out up a warning to stop folk visiting them, dying their neighbour will come out with a gun. Seems like he just doesn't want the family getting hassled as a result of his video, so trying to scare folk.

"Eeek, yakk, hupp" - no idea how the rest of the family can understand what he is saying??

Thanks for posting this. I've watched a few and they are incredibly facsincating. (Gummo the hacker was neat - what's possible when you give someone a chance...) I've got a few on my watchlist that are going to make me realise my problems are nothing compared to others.

Some of the prostitute ones...such an awful way to survive.

Mark comes across as a good guy. The fund he set up for the family above raised a good deal of money.

He has on occasion been incredibly naive- recently he did a video where it turned out that he was helping a girl get out of her life of gang involvement- turns out he was paying for an apartment for her, trips away, ‘000’s of dollars of cash and she and her “boyfriend” were taking him for a ride. The follow up he did with the pair of them made him look a bit silly.
It’s not the first time it’s happened either.

He is trying to help (and has helped) many pretty damaged and vulnerable people but he doesn’t always get it right.

I just dropped in on this channel after quite some time to see this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW5QgcEzdtk

He started 'dating' the 19yr old daughter of an interviewee when he was 62. She died recently from a drug overdose.

He always seemed a little strange around young female subjects. I didn't expect him to invite it into his personal life to this extent.

I don't think he's malevolent as such, but there's a lot of weirdness and offness going on. I'll leave him and his tribe to it from now on.

I've been listening to the odd one. As above really enjoyed the hacker one and the bent NYPD one was great too.

People live through some stuff!

He sometimes seemed a bit off or perhaps lacking empathy is the right way to put it but I did enjoy hearing the stories.

Actually since this thread has come back up, if anyone can recommend any other similar channels that would be appreciated.

I used to listen to a channel where they played interviews where the police caught out murderers and that's how I discovered this channel. Really fascinating, there really some bad people out there.
