My daughter had to watch The Hours (2002 film with Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman for those fortunate enough not to have seen it) for homework. Wife and I thought we would join her.

Yes it is 19 years old but that is not so long ago. I am almost certain I saw it when it came out (I recognised some things eg Nicole’s
prosthetic nose) yet I could not remember a single detail of the plot. My wife still thinks she hasn’t seen it before - although I can’t see how that is possible if I’ve seen it because it is definitely her kind of film, not mine.

It wasn’t a badly made or badly acted film - just of zero interest to me. I remember seeing films that were objectively worse but strange that it made so little impact that I don’t remember any details. I suspect we saw it at the cinema so can’t even blame booze!

Anyone else watched a film and uncertain whether you had seen it before?

there have been a few where i've started watching something on one of the platforms and it's only 1/4 of the way through that I'm starting to think "...hmmmm this looks familiar..."

Is it age unusual? When we studied Othello back at school in the 80s we were encouraged to watch a BBC adaptation. The difference then is that access to films wasn’t as easy as today otherwise I’m sure we would have seen To Kill a Mockingbird too.

That is only that start of her pain. They will be going through the book upon which the film was based in class then she has to write an assessed essay on some aspect of the book/film. Given how much she hated the film I feel sorry for her!

I found it depressing, self-indulgent and virtue signalling.

Nor in mine. All we had to help us study 'Under Milk Wood' was a tape of Richard Burton reading it; 'kin brilliant!

My dad was bad at remembering films. When the end credits of a film rolled he said " I think I have seen that before" hehe

I remember going to see Polanski's Macbeth in the cinema for English.

Mostly though we threw peanuts at each other and the teachers and tried to see a bit of the porn film on in the other screen at the time (with no success as I recall).

Top Gun for me. All that homoerotic innuendo and exciting flight sequences. I know I've seen it, but I don't remember any of it.

Worricker Trilogy of films

Page 8

Turks and Caicos

Salting the Battlefield.

Sat through them all. Utterly boring. Couldn't remember who the people were and why they were in the story from one film to the next.

Hoped it would be an amazing ending....

I won't spoil it.

Her hating it may be a blessing; It could be easier to write an essay as to why she didn't like it, than if she was indifferent to it or even if she liked it.

Her teacher will probably enjoy reading a harsh critique. Critical thinking is what teachers want to see.
