Cruelly (Disney but with car content)
Discussion
Normally this would have passed me by completely (honest!) but my wife loves stuff like this so on a lazy Sunday afternoon we decided to watch it. Or rather she did while I was present in the room.
As you might have guessed it’s a sort of current take on Cruella deVille’s back story. She’s the Dalmatians woman with black & white hair. Filmed as live action as opposed to a cartoon. Sounds like a total pile of crap I know, but it was actually quite watchable.
Starts off in the 60s and quickly fast forwards to the 70s where it seems to stay for the rest of the film. Loads of really stylish retro touches, and you’re never far away from some decent car spotting either in the background or as part of the story. They do drop the ball once or twice (Cortina Mk 4 in 1973? And a four door silver 80s Range Rover dropped in when they thought we wouldn’t notice?! Not on my watch Disney).
Still, a decent effort all in all with lots of bread & butter Fords and BL stuff setting scenes. Also there’s a lot of parties set at grand houses so cue Rollers (inc Camargue if you’re quick ) and other posh stuff, and a lovely Aston Lagonda gets some decent screen time.
Cruella gets her own Panther deVille at the end, a nice touch but my missus looked at me blankly when I explained why.
Worth streaming on Disney if you have it, but be prepared to see most of the men portrayed as total imbeciles though.
