Babylon 5 reboot
Discussion
One of the best sci-fi shows Babylon 5 is getting a reboot.
It will thankfully have the original creator at the helm, J . Michael Straczynski.
So presumably there has been changes at WB who seemed determined to leave it to rot, although there was a remaster release on streaming sites last year.

Think this news has just been announced and I cannot see another thread on it.
This shouldn't be another Kurtzman situation as it is the original show creator in charge of the reboot.
Babylon 5 was one of my favourites but of course suffers from the production standards on TV back when it was made. A reboot then does have some potential, in the right hands.

I loved Babylon 5, without a doubt the best sci fi series in regards to its story at least. Every few years I watch it again and still get emotional at the finale. Only thing that comes close for me is most of Star Trek TNG, and certain episodes of Voyager and DS9.
I would love to see something new from the B5 universe, but im a bit dubious as to whether t'll work. JMS tried several times to do something with B5 in the past, and despite looking promising, these spin offs never went far unfortunately. Unlike Trek or Star Wars who is known to millions, the following for B5 is strong, but only to a relatively small group. I think half the reason is possibly the characters, and the actors who portrayed them. I couldn't see anyone other than Jerry Doyle as Garibaldi, or Andrea's Katsulas as G'Kar for example. Just two of the cast who are sadly no longer here.
I could be wrong of course, and I hope I am. After all, I was impressed with Chris Pine and Co playing Kirk and the rest of Trek original characters, but I wasn't nearly as invested in them as much as I was Patrick Stewart on TNG, or more on topic, the cast of B5.
I guess I'd like to see a continuation of, or possibly a prequel, rather than a reboot. A reboot for me would be like a reboot of The Lord of the rings, I simply can't imagine how it could be done better.

It appears next year will be the return of Babylon 5.

One of the greatest science-fiction shows of all time is coming back next year. A secretive new Babylon 5 project featuring all surviving members of the show's original main cast, its creator J. Michael Straczynski has revealed.
Straczynski, better known as 'JMS' to his fans, took to Twitter to casually drop information about the project, saying that it has already been produced and will debut at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con. "It's the closest thing to the original B5 in tone of anything we've done since. As if no time has passed at all," he wrote on Twitter.

It's an animated movie
J. Michael Straczynski said:
BABYLON 5 ANIMATED MOVIE coming from Warner Bros. Animation & WB Home Entertainment! Classic B5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans. Movie title, release date and other details coming one week from today
J. Michael Straczynski said:
And just to be clear, this brand new original animated movie is already finished and in the can. So it's 100% real, happening, and coming out very soon.
J. Michael Straczynski said:
Again, full release details and other info will come next week from Warners. If you're excited about the idea--and as an aside, if this does well there will be more animated movies, maybe on a regular basis--let the world and WB know and crush whatever's trending

Will be interesting to see if it sticks to the plot of the series or the original plan.
Patricia Tallman and Walter Koenig are still around. I'd love a movie about the death of the psicore even if it were animated. I never had the chance to read the novels.

And so it begins... 15th August.

I would prefer live action rather than animated, but it really is remarkable (and awful) how many of the original cast have passed away since the last series. It would be nice if this is successful and kickstarts a new live action show set in the B5 universe.

If anyone can handle reaction videos I've gained much enjoyment watching Medusa Cascade on youtube watch the entire series for the first time. Highlights are mainly when she's bawling her eyes out at the fate of... well, just about all of the characters.
Seems like a one-off ala the spinoff movie/extended episodes like In The Beginning, which I'm happy about. I'm not sure I'd like a reboot given how attached I'd become to the original characters.
It seems unreal that only Claudia Christian is alive from the cast who stepped into the elevator for the last time in Sleeping in Light.

The station looks better animated than CGI. Trailer:

The animation looks really good. Not childish at all, though I noticed one or two instances in the dialogue where adults were speaking like children. I couldn't get into Star Trek: Lower Decks for that reason.
If we get a live action show, I hope it is a spin off set just after the original story, rather than a reboot.

Could be decent, a delve into the lore. Always thought the universe was decent and relatively believable. It will also be available on Amazon Prime (£9.99) in about a month.
