Its worse than 'Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank" would have been ... lame-er than watching Monkey Tennis

Wife & son "watched" the series, I caught bits of the first prog then looked at the bits where they were looking at other motorhomes and conversions.
There were a few good bits but yes, watching Merton fumbling around in the kitchen or sitting waiting for his dinner were not exactly TV of the year.
Better than a lot of other total "look at me" tosh on the tele though.

His wife is a lot better in front of a camera than he is.

Re the programme, I enjoyed the parts where they are looking at other vans and where other campers give hacks and tips for an easier life.

Otherwise the problem with this is typical of most fly on wall TV productions is that you never know whether the talent is portraying themselves in a true manner or it's all an acted persona. See J Clarkson / J May as examples.

Suki Webster (Mrs M) seems nice, far too good for Paul Merton.

As for PM, I'm at close risk of breaking the rule that it's better to say nothing if only to find you have absolutely nothing nice to say. PM, well, his diction and enunciation is very clear. Otherwise one is led to wonder if this is what he is really like. After all why would you deliberately assume a false persona of a fairly handless impractical sarcastic misogynistic weapons grade bell end. Could it all be a comic bluff. Again see J Clarkson.

Shame he wasn't funny, although I think he thought he was being hilarious
