Just heard that they are making yet another live action remake of an earlier, cartoon classics - Snow White. Peter Dinklage not happy (mmm…that could be read in more than one way!)

I agree but not just because of representation. What is wrong with Disney? Is there not a single person in charge with an ounce of creative talent and appetite for risk taking? Someone who could put a stop to the endless regurgitation of old films or stupid back stories that try to make (female) villains from past films seem less villainous?

I suppose if people keep going to see them and make money then Disney will keep making them.

Still seems odd. Not content with ruining someone else’s legacy (Lucas’ Star Wars) they are now stting all over their own back catalogue.

I think they've ruined a fair bit of their own catalogue, but some of them have been monster hits (others not so much), so I expect they'll all be redone and they'll all be changed to suit today's mores.

Biased much?

I enjoy the new disney stuff in so much it is my only stream subscription.

The film is based on a old fairy tale, really can't the issue here.

Does it take the piss out of disabilities?

Is being grumpy a trait of dwarfism? Give over.

What about Load of the Rings, the stereotype of drinking angry dwarfs, should that be banned?

Biased? Yes I am biased against taking good old films and making pointless remakes that don’t have anything new to say and usually lose the charm of the originals. What did the “live action” (actually just CGI cartoon) Lion King give you that the original didn’t?

I expect the live action SW won’t be a retelling of the original German folk tale but will be a rehashing of the Disney cartoon. Not quite the same thing.

Well I do hope the prince doesn’t kiss SW until she’s awake and asked her permission in this version…… smile

Someone needs to point out that dwarfism is one thing and dwarfs are something else. As in one is real and the other is a mythical creature that likes mining, beards and sometimes axes. Like in LotR or Discworld.

Maybe someone didn't understand the difference compared to what's in GoT?

Having two daughters I’ve quickly gotten up to scratch with Disney having gone 30 odd years without seeing much of their stuff.

Personally, I can see the appeal. The adult retelling of old stories appears to women who grew up on a 90s diet of Disney films (when they were actually good) and the modern re-hash appeals to the modern children who simply expect bigger and better visual treats.

It’s all very well saying the original story is the appeal but to be quite honest, my kids at least don’t find the old stuff as interesting.

Different times.

It gave my family an unexpected extra hour to do something else that day. We turned it off after about 20 minutes because it was glaringly obvious that it was a soulless, charmless, cynical pile of cash-cow-milking ste.

Technically very impressive though.

The seven dwarves were sitting in the bath feeling happy.

Happy got out so they felt grumpy instead.

Films are littered with stereotypes.

Hulk big and strong, but stupid, that is a massive one.

Most modern films show women as strong independent characters, as previously it used to be weaker need help.

Dwarfs based on myths, which are based on reality. like Mental Health issues meant you were a loon or possessed by the devil.

Just better to address the issue and then have better education round the topics than just remove everything?

So funny they ticked one box and forgot a more glaring problem.
Disney st has been shat. Expect something more like hobbits on a quest. Names may be a problem.

Indeed

They are a fairy tale people in a fairy tale. You might as well complain about Elves being in movies if you are tall, thin and like hanging out in Tree houses.

As for the movie itself it will no doubt be poor like most Disney live action adaptations. Their live action Beauty and the Beast was a completely pointless movie, all the best bits were in the cartoon and everything added was either poor or just bloated the running time for no purpose.

We live in the world of the professionally offended.

For some reason Dinklage is offended by a as yet unrecorded retelling of a fairy tale published in 1812.

Yet Lord of the Rings series of films featuring dwarves ( elves, humans, trees etc are also in it ) - was silent IIRC

Seriously. - Life is too short.
Rats - just twigged to what I typed.

I suspect Dinklage has a lot of first hand experience of prejudice against those with dwarfism so accusing him of being professionally offended seems a bit off.

Snow white and the seven able bodied men?

Would dwarfs find this offensive?
