Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith being in "G.I. Jane 2" because of her bald head.

Will Smith sauntered on stage, slapped Rock, then screamed twice at the top of his lungs "KEEP MY WIFE'S NAME OUT OF YOUR F-NG MOUTH."

Will Smith then goes on to win the Oscar for Best Actor.

Real life drama or Hollywood shenanigans?

It was incredibly well acted (I mean… am I surprised). The punch wasn’t real, watching it a few time and it’s a ‘stage punch’. Didn’t connect, camera at exactly the right angle to make it look just right. No chance.

Isn’t Will Smith in an open relationship with his wife? Mmmm. Don’t think I can say what I’m thinking without it being censored.

I’d agree, you can see a mile off.

Real or not, it wasn't a punch - was a "bxtch-slap".

Really difficult one - Rock certainly didn't seem like he was expecting it, and Smith seemed properly pissed when sat back down and shouting.

The F bomb doesn't get dropped too often in public events in the US.

Then, the whole 'god is telling me to protect people' speech? Has Will lost the plot?

I can't see why that would be faked, what is in it for Will Smith? Biggest night of his life ruined. Also if it was a planned moment why drop f bombs? That immediately causes issues with it ever being shown properly in the US.

Well Will told Chris to “keep my wife’s name out of your mouth”. I’m assuming in an open relationship names should be the least of his concerns…

BBC said:
Will Smith hit Chris Rock in the face on stage at the Oscars after the comic made a joke about the actor's wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Referring to Pinkett Smith's shaved hairdo, Rock said: "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2."

Smith walked up on stage and appeared to strike Rock before returning to his seat and shouting: "Keep my wife's name out of your... mouth."

Smith later apologised in a tearful best actor acceptance speech.

I wonder if Jada's bald head is a consequence of cancer treatment rather than shaved for a role.

That might explain:

1. Why she did not find the joke remotely funny,
2. Smith's reaction,
3. Smith's comments in his acceptance speech.

Well if that was real then Chris took that like a hero and Will just made himself look like an utter tt.

The reasons for her hair loss are well documented (by herself).

On the one hand the lack or angles and photography suggest a superbly executed fake, on the other hand I just cannot see why it was worth the risk for Will Smith. He hardly needs exposure and it may backfire spectacularly. It's not the 70s, hitting somebody in a rage is kinda frowned upon in 2022.

Part of me is thinking this is all staged to try and get people in the Oscars again. Viewing figures and interest has tanked over the last few years from what I've seen.

Features NSFW language, if it was a set up, it appears someone forgot to tell Chris Rock in this back stage footage.

What a clown. He didn’t actually apologise to Chris Rock either.

That said, it was a pretty cruel joke because she is suffering from alopecia which must be hard for a woman. Comedians should have some lines too, particularly when it’s punching down like that to someone in the room.

It also put Will Smith in quite a position having his wife insulted like that on a global stage.
