i means important! hehehehe

I'm laughing and cringing because I was in this league in the 90s too.

I'd inherited a 205 GTi but that got swapped out for a perfectly acceptable Sierra Sapphire (GLX no less) but I was livid. I think I may have even suggested taking a pay cut to keep the 205!!!

I remember doing a little fleet deal for 4x base model Maestros, one had a rear wash wipe fitted which was extra but we were going to throw it in for free. We had to take it off and fit a blanking grommet otherwise there would've been blood shed over who got the one with a RWW!

I still don't know if this was for real or whether it was a parody..?

The ‘acting’ seems too good for it to be a parody. Some of those guys should’ve made it as real actors if it was scripted, but I’ve never seen them in anything else. laugh

Clearly a parody. Very entertaining but blatantly scripted and surreally satirical.

If it was a parody then it feels ahead of its time, nearly a decade before The Office.

Somewhat agree with you there. Definitely self-deprecating, nuanced British humour and certainly comes across as a mocumentary. The Office was first created in 1998 so five years after this.

If anyone believes that, for example, all the shots of the salesmen placing jackets in the back or in the public telephone booths are candid shots then they're very easy to dupe. There's not much information on the series online so I guess many think that in the absence of any express labeling of 'comedy', it is anything but a comedy.

I don’t know much about how TV is made, the chap who did this was Martin Parr I think? He made documentaries mostly. Maybe it’s real people being heavily ‘coached’ on what to say, though they do all seem incredibly comfortable in front of the camera for people pulled off the street. biggrin

With PH being as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if any of the people in that "doco" were on here.

Another good vid from the same era is The driven man with Rowan Atkinson.

Thanks for that, I'd seen it before but long forgotten. The Grosse in the shop window, Roderick the cabbie, great stuff. Driving school car was a 1.6L, identifiable from an otherwise identical 1.3L by the circular holes in the steelies rather than rectangular.

Whenever I leave a motorway I feel a tinge of sadness + the clothes hanger discussion.

It's a parody.

Not car related but similar style was ‘The Armstrongs’ - fly on the wall doc about coventry’s 3rd largest double glazing company.
Absolutely toe curling level of cringe yet compulsive viewing. Available on YouTube

Sadly there wasn’t a second series.

You know you've hit the big time when your company car is a base model Maestro. Beige with brown interior. Monday mornings, depression central.
