Disney-Pixar’s forthcoming film Lightyear has now reportedly been banned in 14 countries over the inclusion of a same-sex kiss scene.
On Monday, the animated film was banned by the United Arab Emirates “due to its violation of the country’s media standards”. Lightyear was scheduled to release on Thursday (16 June).
The UAE, like other nations in the wider Middle East, is a Muslim-led country that criminalises same-sex relationships.
Disney has reportedly been unable to secure the release of Lightyear in 14 Middle Eastern and Asian countries, including Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Egypt, Indonesia, and Malaysia,
The film is unlikely to release in China as well, according to the South China Morning Post

The movie, with Chris Evans voicing the character of Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story films, reportedly includes a a brief kiss between Hawthorne, the character voiced by actress Uzo Aduba, and the woman she is in a relationship with.

Pixar had earlier restored the same-sex kiss in Lightyear in March after staff released an open letter criticising Disney’s response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. While the nature of the characters’ relationship hadn’t been questioned by production, their kiss had reportedly been cut.

I happened to be in the UAE when the Elton John film Rocketman was released in the country. I was offered a ticket to the ‘red carpet’ premiere and had quite an enjoyable evening (including alcohol being served).
I was surprised that a film about a gay man was shown in the country. It was only when I returned to the UK that I realised the film I saw had been edited to remove some scenes.
I may be wrong but presume that in this case that Disney Pixar are refusing to edit the film.

It's not a news story (other then Disney making it one)
k right off, what a bizarre thing to be pissy about.TV and film has been censored since it was invented. I spent some time in Bahrain in the 80's and things like Dallas had any suggestion of sex was edited out. It made it very difficult to follow what was going on.
If they don't allow same sex relationships and Disney aren't doing a locally acceptable version, then it won't get shown. Disney know that.

Surprised they didn't just edit it out, that's what Disney usually does to avoid offending certain countries by showing same-sex relationships or black people.
They did. Then they had some internal issues due to US political stuff so they put it back to appease their staff.
Really it should just be banned for being a bit s
t if the reviews are anything to go by. A Winner Is You said:

That's the sensible business decision (and quite normal). They are doing for reasons other than business though. To be fair it's only rated PG so you could potentially have some very young children going to see it, not really the sort of thing you want to expose them to, certainly not for the first time in a cinema, would likely lead to all sorts of awkward questions. Let them be children for God's sake.
Including that type of thing in what's supposed to be a kids movie really is political correctness gone mad.

Would you object in the same way to a male-female kiss? If not, why not?Including that type of thing in what's supposed to be a kids movie really is political correctness gone mad.
