THPOOONS!!!!!!!Right said Fred, both of us together,
One each end, and steady as you go.
tried to shift it,
Couldn't even lift it,
We was getting nowhere,
And then we had a cup of tea,
And Charlie had a think and said,
if we remove the handles,
and the things wot hold the candles,
with a rope or two we can push the beggar through
The inspiration for the pop group?

Maybe never got the credit as an serious actor, the scene with Jenny Agutter in The Railway Children
where he's upset thinking the things the children have given his family are charity
rather than genuine gifts from people who regard him and his family very highly is
charged with pathos and well played.
RIP Bernard.

My fondest memory of Bernard was his narration of a mini-series in the mid-1990's called A Passion For Angling. The camera work and photography were perfectly bucolic for the subject, and the anglers - Chris Yates and Bob James - were ideal subjects for people that just love fishing even when not catching fish.
However, without Bernard's narration - blending gentle commentary with the occasional excitement - I don't think the series would have worked at all.
