No adverts on TV

I noticed that on UK TV, just displaying their logo during ad breaks. I've been trying to listen to Absolute Classic Rock the past couple of days but they've pulled their normal programmes and are playing some utter dross instead, advert free. I don't understand why the tv and radio companies are doing this, I don't make the connection from paying respects to the Queen and totally changing their output. It's not like the BBC and ITV which is just wall to wall the Queen, King Charles and the Royal family.

struggling to fathom out the reason.
An advert may contain content that in normal times is harmless but in light of the current situation would be considered in bad taste or disrespectful. This would lead to reputational damage to both the advertiser and broadcaster. There is not the capacity to review and consider every ad that goes out for this and even if there were, advertisers wouldn't necessarily have something that could drop in instead causing last minute issues with schedules. It's easier to pull all advertising for the period of mourning.Rather than allow broadcasters to make this decision, it is a directive contained within Operation London Bridge.

I'm with you. I've posted about 6Music a couple of times in other threads and been rather left feeling like I'm moaning about nothing. But like you I find the whole thing baffling. I can understand that they might not want to play The Sex Pistols "God Save the Queen" but apart from that, what does it matter? Nobody has to listen to Absolute Classic Rock or 6Music if they don't want to.

Funeral plans ??
Fair point.
So the solution there should be ........ don't show funeral plan adverts.
Thing is, what one person considers disrespectful, others may not. Plus you have the debate on whether it's appropriate to embark on any capitalist endeavour using jovial advertising at such a time. There's not a wrong or right answer to that so is easier to cancel broadcast advertising on the main channels.
Yep - I've had a big event cancelled this saturday as the client is worried about bad feedback (cost me many £1000's). We've become a nation of pussies.
Radio 6 has been hard work, so I switched over to Absolute 80's yesterday and the show was interrupted to talk about how we might all manage our mental health during these distressing times, and how they had changed their play list etc...... ffs. I switched to my audiobook.
and I thought people went nuts when Princess Di died.......... pop over to NP&E if you want to see a pitch fork mob baying for blood if anyone dares to look at their phone when the royal courtage goes past. It's all bloody mental.
