I’m hard of hearing and really depend on subtitles and neither of these channels have subtitles, why not ? It’s fairly easy to do , most have them and it discriminates against those who are disabled. They seem to be worthwhile watching !

Does seem odd. The image quality of those two channels on freeview is also appalling.
Just tried talkTV on YouTube and the picture quality is much better and auto generated subtitles can be switched on (they are not great though).

Ofcom only makes the big channels do subtitles. I think you need a certain amount of viewers until you have to do it.

It's actully very expensive to do, For live channels like BBC News & Sky News it's done by a person repeating back into a microphone and they can only do a block of work of 15 to 20 minutes until they need a break.

Sorry to say don't expect it for quite a while.

I was watching something on GB News recently when they read out a message from a viewer who wanted to know why they have no subtitles. They said that they have ordered the equipment they need to do subtitles but are still waiting for it to be delivered.

Thanks for that, very interesting. I never really thought about the finer points of how they are produced, I just assumed it was some software which directly turns the main live audio into text, rather than the requirement for a "middle-man/woman".

I'd be surprised if a shoestring operation like Talk TV/GBN don't do this, even though their viewers are more likely to be those in need than for other channels. I assume the nature of their output also lends itself well to an automated approach.

Just out of curiosity, after seeing this thread, I thought I would try the subtitles on both BBC and ITV news last night. It was pretty bad, you could get the gist but the number of wrong words was very surprising.

yeah i gave up on it . Dunno what people expect when its a live broadcast.
Would be a struggle for it to work on gbnews as they say really inaccurate things all the time.

Gb news has now got subtitles but the words are so quick, you can't read them. Why no subtitles on talk tv?

It's probably for the best.
last thing we need is more indoctrination by right wing channels of decent law abiding folk.

Yes, hence your woke political ideology have lost the last 5/6 political referendums/General/European elections at the ballot box.

Seems reasonable to have an alternative to the BBC/C4 extreme left wing output.

I must have missed that bit. But wherever one stands , it's easy to think anything which doesn't reflect one's own views is 'extreme '.

Is this the tv channel that boasts former culture secretary and Boris fan girl Nadine Dorries ? Lack of subtitles would be a blessing ..
