As per the title, is it as simple as plugging an HDMI lead into the Monitor instead of a TV? Yes, the monitor has built-in speakers (and a headphone output which could be connected into e.g. a soundbar).

Will the picture resolution etc just sort itself out or might some manual adjustment of the display be needed?

Will the display drop to standby when there's no signal? Presumably the Sky Q remote won't be able to switch the display on and off because it will have no IR receiver.

Everything should just work as you say, do you know which monitor you have?

It's an Asus Pro Art PA278QV.

A family member requested it for Christmas and has now changed their mind! It's still "new, boxed and sealed" so I'm trying to decide whether to try to use it myself for TV purposes or sell it on via ebay etc. There's an old TV in the kitchen which could usefully be replaced but they no longer make TVs in a size that will fit under the cupboards...

(Mind you, they no longer make ovens that will fit in our oven cabinet but that's a different challenge!)

Re your initial comment, the Sky remote will switch on the screen via the HDMI lead. I.e. When you press the SKY logo on the remote. I have one of these boxes as a multi room unit.

That's a good monitor, I see no reason why it shouldn't plug and play

A further question occurs to me.

How do you deal with sound "volume" adjustment if watching Sky Q through a computer monitor??

If Sky Q is like any other TV box then the volume is managed through the box and its remote.

I'm afraid in this instance you'll have to manually adjust it on the monitor itself

Aha! Thanks. I guess the alternative will be to add a soundbar that the Sky remote can control.
