Out today and couldn't see a thread on the search that wasn't about supercars or number plates hehe

Woman creates AI doll called M3GAN, her niece is orphaned and she takes her in and introduces the prototype doll. A little bit of AI, a little bit of Chucky. It's getting good reviews, it cost $12m to make and it's made over 3x that already at box office just in the USA last week. It's a 15 here, and not an R in America so it won't be heavy on the horror. I'll be going to see Methreegan sometime next week.

Going to see it tonight, a M3GAN 2.0 sequel is confirmed for January 2025 https://deadline.com/2023/01/m3gan-2-release-date-...

It's close to $100m international box office now and it's getting good reviews. January films are usually not too good. I've heard that Plane is a fun one too, in a 90s film made now kind of way.

Went to see this, it's great. Not that scary or gory, more of a comedy horror. It pulls bits from lots of other films, a few of the characters are OTT, but it does it all well, it was a fun time.

8 latex thumb fingers / 10 Furbys.

After the trailer came out and the whole TikTok dance meme happened, executives saw money and had it cut to PG13 so younger ones could go see it (still a 15 here). The plan worked. You can see bits where it's cut to make PG13, the home release version might have the 'uncut' R rated M3GAN.

I went to see it on a date, didn't know what to expect but really enjoyed it. Although felt it was cut a bit short in places, but the post above explains why!

Saw this with Miss Badger on valentine's Day, was quite good. I definitely think you'll get more out of it if you have young children.

Like all robot filums all the way back to Kubrick's 2001 it breaks the law of computers
[ there actually is such a thing ] i.e. a robot can only do things it was programmed to do,
it can't go rogue, randomly ignore voice commands, or suddenly throw some Beyonce shapes, or kill humans.

Bit of a hoot, played for laughs more than straight horror.

I liked it, the CEO was brilliant as comic relief.

Taller maybe, probably because the actor/dancer has grown up a bit.

Hope they don't feck this up as the first one was surprisingly good.

Universal have a spin off of M3GAN called SOULM8TE, but because M3GAN 2.0 didn't do well for them, they're trying to sell it to another studio. It was meant for cinemas on January 9th, but this is the first time I've seen anything about it, no ads, no trailers, so there's something going on there. It's about another model of robot doll. This is from the article.

https://deadline.com/2025/12/m3gan-universe-movie-...

article said:
In Soulm8te, a man acquires an artificially intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently-deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate. Soulm8te stars Claudia Doumit, Lily Sullivan, Isabelle Bonfrer, Emma Ramos, Sydney Blackburn among others.
So a bit of Companion and a bit of the 'Be Right Back' episode of Black Mirror with roles reversed?

I don't think it will go to cinema if Universal don't want it, it's probably one for streaming or it will get buried. January 9th is also the release date for Primate, the pet monkey horror film, and studios releasing competing films on the same weekend isn't the done thing.
