Help Please to I.D. 1980s British TV show

A British TV scene is stuck in my head for from 40 years ago and I wondered if you guys could help me identify the programme
I thought it was tales of unexpected but having watched them all and I don’t think it is.
An older gentleman of the road type hitchhiking, gets picked up by a businessman with his brand-new BMW 7 series with sunroof open and they get into a police chase. After the chase the gent of the road states all the facts and figures of the BMW to the businessman any clues as to the program, gratefully received. Wanted to check how accurate the version in my mind is with the actual.

Definitely Tales of the Unexpected! I cant remember much about it either except the driver being surprised he couldnt outrun the police motorbike and the hitch hiker pointing out they were both BMW's.

It's called "The Hitchhiker" and it is by Roald Dahl, so it probably will be one of the Tales Of The Unexpected.

Either that, or you're mising The Hitchhiker up with something else in your memory.

Sounds like the one where he’s a pickpocket and filches the copper’s note book. Takes the drivers watch and I think steals his car at the end.

Definitely Tales if the unexpected.

It was on TV quite recently,and as said, it was Tales of the Unexpected and starred Rod Taylor
