There may be more to this, did he leave or was he pushed? Darren Adam who did show before Steve suddenly went off-air quite recently and vanished.

I liked them both, a shame they are gone.

Does anyone know more?

That's interesting as he hasn't been on this week and he is standing down with immediate effect, I enjoyed listening to his random morning show for half an hour when out with the dogs before Nick Ferrari took over at 7.

Personally couldn't stand the guy for more than 30 seconds. Pure bhiness/moaning about others. Good riddance.

That's a shame as I liked listening to him if I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep.

I could imagine from LBC's perspective he's an OFCOM complaint or court case waiting to happen though hehe

I only ever heard his show once, fairly recently, and I wondered what the hell I was listening to!

It was just some bloke waffling on endlessly about things he didn't like, people he didn't like, moaning about life itself, and I didn't even hear any callers. It was just him talking to himself for 3 hours!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the appeal.
Other presenters hail him as some sort of legendary broadcaster but he sits there moaning and being quite rude about people and calls it entertainment.
Same with Nick Abbot who talks rubbish and drops in sound effects wherever possible.

Excited to see who he'll be replaced with, I might start listening before 7am again.

There was a relatively brief period where I listened to Steve Allen when driving into London for early shifts, more to stay awake than anything. Having caught his show again more recently I reached the conclusion it was indeed awful, and a bizarre fit for what is primarily a news/politics discussion platform. I was amazed he didn't go when he had a pop at Gordon Ramsay's daughter, he really wasn't doing the station any favours. I wonder if it's health related or they've just decided to give him the elbow for whatever reason.

James OB really is a negative moaning toss piece, the only thing that makes me tempted to listen is hearing someone who tells him so! He’ll often cut the conversation off when it’s not going his way though.

Shelia Fogarty creates some good balanced chats.

Then there’s Nick Ferrari who says what most actually think….

I found Steve was quite easy to listen to when starting an early morning drive. A lot of inane chat about nothing but a bit like having your grandad sat next to you on a drive.

Well it’s quite obvious why James O’Brien is still on, he has the highest ratings on the station!

The fact he winds up right wing bores is an extra bonus.

Nick Ferrari on the other hand is just a Tory culture war mouthpiece, but having Ferrari on is what allows O’Brien to be on. Balance and all that

Steve Allen seems to have got bye by basically reading content of the daily rags, Googling and bhing about the subject, he’s been talking drivel and going through the motions for years.

I doubt he’ll be missed by anybody other than the easily pleased and hard of thinking !

Because he draws the highest listener figures for them?

On topic, never really got SA. Used to listen to him driving to work and it’s just bhy gossip and reading the newspaper headlines.

I go to work at 5.30am so would have SA on as it was easy listening for the 25 mins or so that I'm driving. My Mum loves him. I once took her to one of his live shows at the Hippodrome in London. TBH it was just a continuation of his radio show which I found a bit meh, but she enjoyed seeing him.

JOB is the ying to Ferrari's yang. I used to listen to him (JOB } a lot, but for the last couple of years I find myself tuning in to other as he tends to steer most of the conservation into a discussion on Brexit whatever the initial topic was.

Ferrari is very good.

I turn SF & Andrew Castle off the moment they come on

Before my time, but I've often wondered was he a big hitter at some point back in the day? I know he's been in radio for years, but was he ever actually 'famous' in a John Peel/Tony Blackburn etc sort of way?

Isn't that because that's where his success in the last 5 or 6 years have come from?!

Steve Allen is a mystery to me… seems to be feted as some sort of doyen of broadcasting… whenever I hear him he comes over as a bhy old has been.
NF is fun sometimes, but too often lapses into cabbie mode and rants for way too long about UKEZ - ‘how’s a plumber going to get his tools to a job???’ - well he’s probably going to add the charge to his already exorbitant bill that’s how…
JOB - gets me through the morning… generally well informed guests and callers - the occasional harpooning is very entertaining.
Shelagh - nice, but can be a hard listen sometimes.
Tom Swarbrick - not a patch on Eddie Mair
Andy Marr - better than Farage who briefly held the spot - informed guests, but not a great style for radio
Iain Dale - usually great listening while making tea

Pretty much my views too, the contrast between Ferrari and JOB can be stark most mornings.

Absolutely.

Don't get me wrong, I think JOB is an excellent broadcaster. He has some brilliant guests, such as Bill Browder, who has campaigned & written about the life & death of Sergei Magnitsky ( a Russian financier). The only reason why I know of these 2 men is because of JOB. Mystery Hour is also geat listening too.

However, it's (his own view on Brexit) got a bit tedious after that length of time. If you was to meet up with a group of people for 3 hours a day/5 days a week and one of those individuals was to bring up the same point day after day wouldn't it get on you nerves after a while? Eventually you would excuse yourself when the topic arose or perhaps wouldn't turn up to the meeting at all.

It's often said on here, that if you don't enjoy watching or listening then turn over or turn it off. Thats what I do

Agree with all that.

JOB has has attracted huge numbers of new listeners and is the biggest (by audience) show on LBC.

I like him as he regularly has very high quality callers who are experts/experienced in their field and it can be really informative. I also like the way he makes people explain themselves and explain their point of view.

There is nothing worse than other presenters who allow ‘Barry from Essex’ to have an ill informed rant about something and then don’t challenge their points or fact check them.

I can listen to Ferrari, and I don’t mind him too much, but he is a bit ‘Red Top Tabloid’. Don’t mind Shelagh Fogarty, although she does get a bit hysterical at times over certain topics.

Unsure about Iain Dale. He has some decent guests and discussions, but he seems a bit of a grumpy and bitter type of chap.

Some of the others are decent such as Tom Swarbrick.

Never, ever saw the appeal of Steve Allen.
