Just watching Tavarish/CarTrek on YouTube and whilst I'm enjoying it, this enjoyment is being severely tested by the endless fking adverts. EVERY. SIX. fkING. MINUTES. I get some poxy gimp advertising Nationwide B/S furious I didn't notice it the last time I was YouTubeing so is this a new thing now?

Install uBlock Origin if you never want to see another ad on YouTube.

I usually watch YouTube content on my laptop but once I watched a YouTube video on my Amazon FireStick which doesn't have an ad-blocker and was shocked by the frequency of ads and the abysmally poor timing of them - cutting presenters off mid-sentence, etc. I get that content creators need to monetize their work but the frequency and timing of ads is a joke which needs addressing. Until that time, I'll continue to block them.

Is it possible to get adblockers that dont mess you up when you try to do legitimate, mainstream stuff like watching BBC iPlayer?

uBlock Origin can be turned off via a button at the top of the browser window. It remembers the on/off status for each site you look at so you only need to set it once for each site. I have no issues with iPlayer or anything else.

What are you watching it on?

It's unwatchable on the Roku app, borderline unwatchable on my TV's built in app and my PS4. You think double ad's every 6 minutes is bad. on the Roku it is double unskippable ads every 2 minutes starting at 1:03 in the video. That's not an exageration either, I have measured.

I now mostly watch it on my laptop using Firefox with Adblock plus. It's bliss.

Youtube are really trying to push premium and are making the experience miserable for those that don't have it. Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn't pay out of principal now.

depending on how serious you are - you could install a raspberry pi on your home network and run pihole which does network level adblocking - every device and every app on your home network will not show ads smile

pihole doesn't stop youtube ads, unless there's a new filter/list I don't have...

Just use Brave browser if you're on a computer, as it has a built-in adblocker. Never seen a youtube ad while using it.

The idea that everyone will immediately switch to YouTube premium isn't working then? I misread the subscription price and thought £1.99 a month seemed OK.

I used my VPN to purchase Premium for £1.30 a month.

It was through India but now apparently only works with Argentina

Remember that Youtube is created by Americans who are used to watching ads every five minutes. I can't bear ads at all, which is why I no longer watch broadcast TV. I watch Youtube more than I watch anything else. So I pay the regular price (no idea what it is and I don't care - it's pennies) and never see ads on Youtube. And it works when I watch on TV with a Roku box. I also have Netflix, and that's more than enough for my watching needs. If I ever want to watch a film that isn't on Netflix, I'm happy to pay the price for that from any of the streaming services. Apart when I wanted to watch Miami Vice. £1.99 per episode? F.R.O...

This. American YouTubers will stuff as many ads into a video as they think they can get away with.

I once had YouTube try and put six ads in a 15 minute video - you wouldn't necessarily get all six, but that's what it was trying.

How many ads are appropriate?
