Jeremy Vine's video clips
Discussion
I'm not anti-cyclist or anti-safe driving, quite the opposite, but it seems to me Jeremy Vine just seeks attention. He's the cyclist equivalent of dashcam drivers.

In this clip he could have easily slowed down a tad yet chose to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Lots of similar clips to this on his Twitter.

I had an identical incident turning into a side street in Hammersmith last week. Cyclist stopped about 6" from my p&j. There would have definitely been some nastiness on my part if he'd hit me as I turned across the cycle lane very slowly and was indicating. t
t.
Hang on, so you knew there was a cyclist on your left in a designated cycle lane, and then slowly pulled across in front of him blocking the lane, and yet it is his fault?
t.Putting your indicators on doesn't give you carte blanche to just pull across in front of someone.
In almost all of the videos he posts even the most hard of thinking can see what is about to happen. He purposefully doesn't anticipate what his fellow road users are up to because Twitter likes and celebrity. More often than not the car driver is in the wrong but rather than avoid the incident he lets it happen, puts himself in positions of danger (one I saw recently he was cycling in a cars blind spot) then acts all
like which removes all the moral high ground, sure the car is wrong but so is he. To that end I am glad he stays on a pushbike

The rules have changed now, dear. Cyclists and pedestrians have right of way.
t.Although I think Mr Vine would benefit from refreshing himself with the Highway Code rules for cyclists.

Whilst I agree we all need to do more to look out for anyone on two wheels (pedal powered or otherwise) I completely agree, he seems to swan about like every motor vehicle driver should be able to see through solid objects and dive out of his way. Simple fact is if he were in a car he wouldn't put himself in most of the situations he finds himself, he just thinks traffic should part for him like the Red Sea rather than act like any other road user.
He posted a clip the other day of him moving to overtake a van which had stopped to allow someone to turn in front of them into a side road, he blamed the van driver and the person turning for somehow not seeing him overtake a stationary vehicle in traffic, instead of holding his hands up and thinking maybe I should anticipate why a car in front of me has stopped. They don't even come close to hitting him, he just rides up on them. Taxi doing single digit speeds.

Then this gem, where a pedestrian with headphones looking at her phone steps off the kerb without looking against a red pedestrian crossing light and blames the driver for using his horn. Literally, that's the purpose of a horn, to warn others of your presence, especially these f***wits in the city paying zero attention to their surroundings.

The driver shouldn't have cut across, but I'm sure most of us have made worse mistakes than that.

k ups, you do it far more than you realise as it is second nature. The problem with militant dashcam/head cam people, is that so many of them seem to relish getting into a pickle so they have something to post.I cycle maybe 4-5k km a year, on possibly the worst roads in Europe, but don't come across half the s
t these people do, probably because I anticipate a punch point, or a blind spot, or something else, even if the other person would be in the wrong, and don't get myself in these situations.I'm not looking for social media clout though.
Vine is an absolute helmet. His searching for victimhood on his bike is astounding. Drivers should look to do him for harassment. Like any dashcam warrior, if they post anything they should post the entire film so we can see their bad behaviours outside of the incident where they think they were "a victim"

t and yes, it would have been his own fault. But thanks for your concern.Cyclists do need to take some personal responsibility for their own safety and the apparent level of self-righteousness on the part of many of them is breathtaking. Still, it's their funeral I guess. Of course, being T-boned by a lycra t
t won't be on my dash cam either.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
